i was going to write a fic for this but i never finished. Maybe now is the time?

Din: "Does the sand bother you when you lay on the beach?" Mer Luke: "I like the sand. It's soft and warm and feels nice. My dad hated sand though. He used to say it was coarse and rough and irritating."

Hello~! A lot of people have sent anons with some really cute ideas for merLuke on land and how he'd struggle to survive...

In the fic I'm writing, he can get lil leggys. It takes a bit, and is not at all pleasant, but the transition is possible. For full mers it can last around 8-10 hours before the secondary lungs get exhausted and they start to dry out for real.

...of course, half mers get about twice that.

ooh the mers can get legs! more convenient but we'll miss flopping luke lol. rip luke sandflopper

since you specifically made the mers force users tho, what if merfolk transforming to grow legs was a rare and difficult skill not all mers can master? maybe luke himself was unaware of this ability until obi wan taught him? or maybe he keeps himself wet on land thinking he'll die if he dries out, but actually he becomes human when dry and he unknowingly is preventing himself from transforming.

it is a lost skill! i'll go more into in the fic (which i'm hoping you're not getting excited about, i'm not a great writer) but not even obi-wan knew they could do it.
