2. see, i personally think that this wouldn't be as much of a problem if they actually did their job right, and also if they treated us(the people of the country) with respect while also listening to our complaints.
do you know how much the teacher's salary in my country is? the HIGHEST is at least Rp3.000.000 and do you know how much that is if converted to USD?
it is only $183 USD. okay, sure, you might think that it's.. i guess, kinda a lot??(though i'm not sure who even thinks that way..) but $183 usd in this country is not even enough to buy rice for your whole family especially if you're the only one working(your partner isn't/can't). do you know why stuff in my country is so expensive?
it's because of inflation. even though our very beloved(not) president has promised to fix the ongoing rupiah inflation(1 usd is literally 16k rupiah in my country,) they have done nothing and has only made it worse.
it's because of the tax. the people's taxes are used to pay DPR's salaries, and because of the increase in their salary, our taxes have also increased.
also, some teachers in my country still has around Rp300.000 as their salary, which is the equivalent to $18.30 USD. EIGHTEEN US DOLLAR. crazy, right? why is a government organization that has done NOTHING for us(they have done a lot of things but it is rarely positive stuff) has a higher salary than a teacher?
now, i'll be telling you what has happened yesterday.
there was a protest in jakarta, i think it's on senayan street?? i'm not sure. i saw a lot of news but i rarely see where the protest is happening.
the protest was about the ridiculous high amount of salary that our DPR got. but, because it was going to be a huge protest, the DPR has decided to go WFH(work from home) instead, which is CRAZY??
they made a statement saying that we are welcome to protest in their office whenever we want, and when we actually do it, they won't listen+they hide in their cozy little homes while the people SUFFERS????
anyway, because people was angry by that WFH thing, the protest goes on for very long until it reached nighttime. i guess it was because it got too hectic, some of the police officers rushed through the crowds of people using their car.
and, unfortunately, they ran over someone with it. 21 years old, still young, working as a grab(or uber to be more familiar,) driver, and was just accidentally getting caught up in the whole protest.
now, the police car stopped for a few moments, possibly in panic. but because the people are angry at them for running over a guy, they decided to step on the gas pedal and just... get it over with.
yes.
they killed. a guy. just because they were scared.
and not only him, others report that three other people were ran over by the police car in the protest against DPR yesterday. fortunately, those three other people were safe in the hospital. but what about the one that's already passed away?
sure, the police force did apologize. but is that gonna change anything? they didn't even execute the police who ran over the 21 year old guy. they didn't even reveal their names. they didn't punish them yet.
they are under 'investigation' when it's already clear what had happened.
and people already lost faith in the punishments even if they are goin to give them to the murderer later. because, did you know that six police officers were caught using narcotics and their punishment was to pray? to PRAY. when it is already something that we(who are in a religion) should do and is not a punishment. praying, for the police force, is considered a punishment. 🤣🤣🤣 here is the evidence:
also, the police officers arrested some of the high school students and others participants that participated in this protest. and do you know what a guy from DPR said about this?
he sided with the police officers who clearly arrested UNDERAGED participants, and he even mocked/swore at them(?) by calling them brengsek(this is a toxic word equivalent to bitch). a guy pushing 50, calling a bunch of high schoolers BRENGSEK? so protesting=being a whiny bitch? got it.
honestly, i'm not sure what else to add. if you'd like to read more, please visit this instagram post. anyway, here are some of the protest footage i got from ig reels:
thank you to everyone who reads this post from top to bottom. there is a protest going on in Bandung near Gasibu(iirc). My sister's school is near gasibu, and luckily, her school allowed her to go home early because of the upcoming protest.
the protest has started a few hours ago. to all of you indonesians that are participating, please stay safe, and please immediately run if you sense something is wrong. we wouldn't want to lose someone else.
please reblog and like this so many people are aware!
