“Well, ain’t that killin’ me’ sugar rush-fueled fun day of innocence.” Diggy’s voice rose as an irritated grumble before falling back down, leaving the small robot master staring at the fenced compound as if it has kicked her in the shins. From her point of view, it might as well have.
Geoworks international compound was larger than her creator’s lab, encircled with a high, barbed wire fence, as expected for belonging to a marginally more successful robotics specialist, all blocky, large buildings and shades of grey. It even seemed to have a slightly unusual flavor, similar to that of an empty millitary compound. ‘xcept, it was very much alive, if the surveyance camera perched on a pole at the entrance was any indication.
Diggy found herself glaring at the blinking red light and the lens of the tool, if not for long, before dipping her gaze at the sign pointing her to the lobby, giving a full-body turn towards the road to the inside of the fence. And, on she marched at a brisk pace, as fast as her legs could carry her in a manner that wasn’t quite running, but definitely in a hurry. She’d waltzed into more unpleasant-looking locations before, from a garbage dump to open sewer grates. She wasn’t about to wuss out just because a location was too formal-looking and was sapping her mood, she was on a MISSION, darnit’! Even if it would limit itself to chucking rocks at someone, she would NOT back down.
Besides, Diggy reasoned to herself with a little snicker, she was too old to be phased by this kind of stuff. So, as her metallic heels clattered on the concrete road, she pressed onwards to the building marked as a lobby. Why some isolated dusty compound would even have one was beyond her, but it at least meant that she couldn’t be chased off by an army of Mets. Or, so she figured.
“Ain’t like ah’ really asked Isotope what they use ta’ guard her old haunt. Wouldya’ even imagine the conversation?” The small ‘bot paused, letting out a dry, myrthless chortle, before lifting her hands and waving them about as she spoke, putting on a fake-cheerful tone. “Howdy, rad-ical! Say, if ah’ try ta’ rob yer’ house someday, what do ya’ reckon’ will shoot at me?”
She shook her head, rolled her eyes, and promptly shimmied on to the lobby, stretching as she grabbed at the door handle, and pushing sluggishly, sticking her full upper body inside. Diggy braced, ready to retreat and run at the first sight of yelling and thrown paperweights.
“H’llooo?” She called out, tone hesistant.
