Constantly replaying that Wayne Rooney bicycle kick he scored against City last season shows how ignorant American media is about soccer. ESPN had a 30 second blurb about Chelsea passing Benfica to enter the semis and face Barcelona and all they showed us was Chelsea exiting the tunnel. Then they played that Wayne Rooney highlight TWICE and I’m sure I also saw a random World Cup highlight somewhere in there – as if the Benfica-Chelsea game was void of excitement. When it comes to ESPN, if it’s not one of Messi’s 9 million highlights, it’s that one Wayne Rooney goal and it’s getting old.
