You ever notice how Sandbar is the only teenaged pony in Ponyville? At least until Twilight opens her school and, even then, he seems to be the only one in his exact age range. Everyone else seems to be, at minimum, college age. Much as he seems like a chill dude, I get the sense that he was probably a very lonely child, which is why he’s so quick to break the rules for his friends after only knowing them for a short time.
