Afternoon! I realized last night that I've yet to officially attempt to draw our lovely little hobbit, Messiam; so here he is! I started drawing him around midnight, so if you find any mistakes/inaccuracies pay it no mind lmao. My main goals for this sketch were to

A: Get a general idea of how to draw him. This lets me not only get used to his design, but to improve it so I can draw him better and more accurately. It also helps me visualize different physical aspects, and will make writing him a bit easier and consistent.

B: Figure out his skin tone, hair color, etc. I realized that without a general idea of how I want him to look, I also only had a faint idea about what his "color pallette" would be.

For now, this is only a general idea of how I think I want to draw him, and he may undergo some small changes as I draw him more! (I also realize I need to make his hair just a wee bit shorter in the back lol).

General Information and Appearance

Name: Messiam Brandybuck

Nickname: Mes'um, The Buckland Baker, Cinta Matdân

Gender/Pronouns: Male, He/Him

Origin: Hobbit of The Shire

Birthday: May 14th (Taurus) TA2891

Relationship Status: Unspoken For

Height: 3'6"

Skin Color: Warm Beige

Hairstyle: Tight curls that fall about mid-ear

Hair Color: Ginger with a few Strawberry Blond highlights

Eye Color: Brown

Distinguishing Features: Freckles that fade in the winter time, and a long scar behind his left ear.

Accessories: A silver ring he'd found in East Farthing when he was a child (and kept since he thought it to be from the elves). Back then he wore it on a necklace, but now he wears it on his middle finger.

Personality, Relationships and Hobbies

Personality: 

Messiam, by all accounts, is first and foremost the kindest and most inclusive Hobbit in Buckland(if not the Shire). He's friendly to all he meets, and to him it's not from being polite: he deeply cares about all that lives under the sky. He'd happily make a friend out of everyone he meets, no matter who it may be, and makes sure to help those struggling physically/emotionally in any way he can. Above all else, he strives to be a glitter of light in the lives of everyone he meets.

Though you wouldn't expect it from him at first, Messiam lives in a constant series of calculated risks. While he may not be a Took -impetuous with unending energy- he is a Brandybuck. Once he decides that his actions won't put others in any serious danger, there's remotely nothing that can stop him.

However, he also struggles with this heritage. Being a Brandybuck meant that you'd be constantly watched by those who knew. A life-long audience waiting for you to give them a reason to see you as unrespectable. Messiam was sure that if he were to even sneeze improperly, everyone from Nobottle to Bree would hear of it. 

Relationships:

Messiam is one of Primula Brandybuck's many siblings, making him Bilbo's cousin. As children, they'd run around the Farthing Woods in search of wild animals and fantastic creatures. They grew a tad distant after they turned of age (Bilbo looking after his family, and Messiam running his Bakery), but still visit each other regularly.

As one could guess, being a baker means seeing lots of people every day. Whether they're regulars or newcomers, Messiam always gets a certain sense of what kind of person they are. The best way to learn about someone is through their tastes, and he just so happens to be in that business. His baking has earned him invitations to family gatherings, and even courtship offers.

Messiam deeply values intimate platonic relationships. The bond two people can share without romance has always been something he admired, and appreciated, since he's never felt the desire to court someone. Not once had he longed for romance, nor had he given thought of the day where he'd potentially wed a beautiful lady. It just… didn't seem very enjoyable. Of course, the older folk found this quite odd; perhaps he was just being patient? Or maybe he was a bachelor? The theories are endless, but he remains unbothered. 

Hobbies:

Messiam's always been an avid reader. Even when he was just a wee little tot, you'd be able to find him in some odd place with a book in his little hands. This sparked an adamant love for learning, earning him vast knowledge of flora, fauna, and different languages. One day he hopes to write a book of his own, to add one more bundle of knowledge for the world to enjoy.

As every other hobbit does, Messiam can't resist a good song, and can play a few instruments. His favorite instrument by far is his Ocarina.

Messiam also loves drawing! His journals are filled with sketched portraits of random hobbits, and different plant life. While his drawing has many different uses, his favorite journals are full of organized identification/fact pages, all about whatever specific plant he'd become fixated on at the time.

Guys!! Look!!!!

@cassiabaggins messaged me earlier asking if she could make Messiam a moodboard, and this is the finished product! I can't begin to explain how much I love this moodboard, and how when I look at it- I can perfectly incision Messiam! I have to say, the picture in the middle is my favorite; it's wordlessly so fitting!

Seeing her get The Vibe, and then create this with nothing more than his Character Sheet is honestly so rewarding for me.
