So NaNo ends up dragging up a lot of your subconscious, I suppose, because of how fast you have to write. According to this theory, I guess mine is made of a mild but not pressing desire for the comapny of tall, muscular men with pretty faces, and a semi-psychotic, nearly overwhelming, genuinely-angry-that-I-don't-have-it desire for Kona coffee.

Trying to define Lukas' desires/motivations has been somewhat more difficult than I first anticipated. At first I thought I had a clear handle on him; in retrospect, this is just because I had such a frustratingly poor grasp of Sylvia that I couldn't see past her.

At any rate, I think I am starting to pin him down. It isn't just that he doesn't like the world he's in for his own sake, it isn't just that he wants to change things so they'll be more fun for him (though that is a huge factor; he is a trickster God, after all), it's that he derives the passion to follow through on the things he has to do, finds the fortitude to make his terrible bargain, finds the strength to pay the toll at each and every bridge he crosses, because he genuinely believes that the world he brings to bear is a much, much better one. For everyone.

That's exactly as dangerous as it sounds. Paradoxically, it's also mundane and inconsequential.
