Rufescent. || CLOSED
[ metagrossiite ]
Rufescent Adjective Tinged with red or rufous.
Red. A full type of red. The shade of colour that oozed down an open cut wound at its own volition. Sickeningly deep with darkness swirling about like dipping paint onto a board. Different colours came and went, depending on the light. The different meanings behind it shifting all around. Love. Violence. War. Passion. A few cups of emotion one would feel when associated with the colour red. It brought pain-- Unavoidable anguish trailing along at its feet while creeping about, ready to take ahold of its next victim. The sense of dread that warned it’s presence and a crippling fear-- Forgetting. Remembering. And after the shock nothing. He only saw red-- The tinge following him along like a stalker at night, hands gripping at the steering wheel with knuckles as white as bone, his heart racing a million miles per hour that the worry it might explode covering the area in deep crimson was the only distraction to keep his mind from wandering onto more serious topics. The pungent smell was intoxicating-- A rush of excitement surging through him-- And if there had been one thing to fear, it was that feeling of excitement. It was not to be proud of yet his gaze flickered down to the scarlet paint clinging to his fingers, drying to his skin, hardening against the wheel.
It took all his will power to hold back the sick surfacing in his throat, the scent becoming unbearable as faded lights flew past the window every so often, the only source of luminosity in the dark area. Good. Good, good, good. The area would be avoided for the time being-- Long enough for the loud rumble of his rust-bucket of a car to leave, unseen, noticed and forgotten. Because who with a good sense of entertainment would pay close attention to the cars that whizzed past at the dead of night, in a place where trees lined the sides, masked the deep forest where god knows what could have been hiding in?
How long had he been driving? Red still stained his vision, from the moment he brought down his fist to the second that past by as he sat in the uncomfortable seat of his car. ‘Seriously, Lance, you need to get a new car already! This peace of shit won’t last another year.’ God help him if it did. It had to go. It had to go more than ever. For a flash of a second, his mind and wandered away from the stains on his hands to stupid conversations that were held in this car. If only his mind could paste itself to those thoughts. Crippling fear settled in once more, his hands trembling against the wheel as a gag left his lips. ‘It’s just a couple of beers, dude, are you really gonna pussy out now and puke?’ If only he could have the same train of thought as he did earlier that evening.
One hour. One hour that had felt like a life time and he was home. His roommate wasn’t there. Out, doing homework like he said he was. He had the time to fix himself up. Silence cut through the air like a knife through cheese as the engine died, his gaze glancing down at the rufescent shirt, trailing all the way to his hands caked in the disgusting paint. He couldn’t hold it in. The mix of alcohol and shock had been too much as he emptied his insides out on the curb with loud gagging that Lance could only pray the neighbours wouldn’t notice.
He stumbled inside, light-headed and dizzy, wanting nothing more than to wash off the remaining evidence against this. To feel clean. But at the back of his mind, he knew that nothing would be able to scrub away the ultimate feeling of disgust from his body. Not once, in the time he could remember, had the man ever felt like crying, but as the tears brimmed the edges of his eyes, a part of him broke. How could he have done this? And yet, he stopped himself, hearing the sound of the door open behind him.
