Top five metals/alloys?

In no specific order:

Ductile iron, because it has so much versatility in mechanical properties and the casting process is so cool (particularly grade 60-40-18 because the properties are so straightforward to achieve)

304 stainless, the workhorse of stainless steels

Bismuth, for the colors and crystals

Chromium, for the colors and for making stainless steel possible

Copper, for its gorgeous colors in solution (especially the deep deep blue of the copper-ammonia complex)

death metal: who is more intimidating, s/i or f/o?

metalcore: who is the 'um they asked for no pickles...' half of the pairing?

nu metal: does f/o communicate more with words or actions? how about s/i?

doom metal: who gets scared more easily?

classic metal: have f/o and s/i ever attended a concert together? who was it?

power metal: do they get into arguments easily? do they make up easily?

glam metal: does s/i steal clothes from f/o or the other way around?

industrial metal: who stays up late working and who convinces the other to come to bed?

thrash metal: do s/i and f/o dance together? what kind of dancing?

what went wrong with the serious string?

So, when rolling metal (in those cases steel), as the metal gets rolled thinner and thinner, it gets longer and longer to maintain conservation of mass (the width is largely unaffected bc of reasons).

Since the material gets longer, it has to speed up in order to maintain the same rate of mass flow. In a steel mill, where the rolling is done in multiple stages in series, the exit velocity can be dozens of miles per hour.

If the metal, flying along at 20+mph, gets misaligned or otherwise moves in a direction it shouldn’t, it becomes Serious String.

(There’s also the one clip of the giant ladle overflowing molten metal, which I believe is happening because of a lot of gas being generated in the liquid, either from gas that was previously dissolved and is now coming out or from a reaction with a substance that is creating gas. The expansion of the gas ends up pushing the liquid steel out of the ladle.)

ok i was just scrolling around but i had to say i appreciated ur profile pic, was fun to see out of nowhere (there aren't many of us yaknow (am recent materials grad)).

bio says ask about metals so like, idk what's the most "out there" alloy you've seen? once one of my profs mentioned mag-thor (thorium to improve the mechanical properties of magnesium) like it was nothing then immediately moved on

For applications of thorium, thoriated tungsten is often used in TIG welding electrodes.

There’s all the weird High-Entropy Alloys (more recently termed Multiple Principle Element Alloys), like CoCrFeNiMn

The funniest alloy system has to be the Columbium-Niobium system.

levi -> om!orion for sure hehe

freemind -> i dnt think he's neccessarily intimidating in the normal way but i think more ppl are uneasy around freemind than s/i

bruce -> bale!bruce is more intimidating for that pairing but conversely, battinson seems more intimidating at first glance but it's actually s/i hehe

nines -> scary robot 4 sure..

leon -> most of the time leon is more intimdating, but re2!o is way more intimidating than re2!leon's baby face hehe

i dont think either does it consciously, but i think levi has a sweatshirt that om!orion left in his room when they were gaming and he wears it occasionally. would die if they ever pointed it out tho
