GAUNTLET SPECIAL! Many of you have offered us so many questions for us to talk about, but @xsilverscorpionx bought up a really good question, 'how were finger lames attached to the glove?' So here is a special post about gauntlets!!! From left to right: 14century finger gauntlet 15-16 century mitton gauntlet 21th Modern cosplay gauntlet. When finger lames were first introduced. The lame/plates were peened down with a washer onto a piece of 1-2mm leather strip. Resulting something alike to a metal shrimp. It is then either glued, or sewn onto the glove. For the back of the hand plate, it is mostly peened to each other, but noticed that the holes are longer. This way,the plate can slide, allowing the user to bend their hand. This is then either glove, or just slide into the glove, making it easier to repair if the glove wear down. Middle century: Mitton style uses the same sliding plate method, from back of hand to entire finger plates, and this method is the same for finger gauntlet of this period. Which is the popular style of riveting each finger lames to one another. This is tedious, not really comfy, and expensive. But once again, there is always a leather strip that these plates get fasten into, to be sewn onto the glove. Modern day: Our perfer method is to sew each finger lames directly onto the glove! By doing so, we can carefully adjust each lames so it fits perfectly. Since repair isnt as common for our reproduction, so removal of the glove wasnt a big deal. The back of the hand plates are also riveted directly into the glove, making the plate as tight to the hand as possible. This method is TERRIBLE for combat as you do want some free space to absorb hit to the hand. But since we wont be using cosplay for combat..so... aesthetic comes first!!! Feel free to ask us anything at any time!!!!
