The Golden State of Mind Palette from Colourpop. 

I have to say I’m disappointed in it. First negative thing: the shadows are smaller than what you get if you buy individual panned shadows from CP. I included pictures for size reference. Second: a lot of the shadows do NOT apply well dry, even when you try to pack the pigment on by finger. You’re better off applying it with a couple drops of setting spray in pan, or spritz your makeup brush with the setting spray to make the shadow wet. You will probably be better off using these as strictly topper shadows. 

I think in the couple of looks I’ve done so far, only one looked halfway decent by itself, and that was with both wet application AND packing on pigment by finger. 

I also purchased Glass Bull and Tea Garden panned shadows. In the picture above, Glass Bull is on top and Tea Garden is below. They are touted as duochromes, but they’re super subtle colors. Colourpop seems to be lacking in pigment in some of their panned shadows.

Fall Eyeshadow Tones: 88 Metal Mania Palette Tutorial

Let's take a break from the high-end makeup and play with some affordable stuff!

One of the things you can consider investing in (if you haven't already) is the Metal Mania palette from Coastal Scents. This is an all-shimmer collection, and it's filled with rich, high-pigmented Fall-appropriate shades ranging from neutral to violets, to teals, and pinks. 

For this soft, richly-colored look, you will need 4 shades from the palette, along with black mascara and brown pencil:

Then finish with a little brown liner along the upper lash line for definition, and black mascara!

I used Shu Uemura's Lasting Soft Gel Pencil in M Brown, and Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Blackest Black.

Sephora Colorful Mono Eyeshadows

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you have not swatched the newly released Sephora Colorful Collection Eyeshadows yet, GET THERE AND GET IT DONE. PRONTO!

5 Reasons you should check it out if you love eyeshadows.

Oh lawd, these are SO pigmented. 

The color range is gorgeous. They have plenty of beautiful mattes, metallics, pearls and glitters. The glitters are a little one-dimensional (they've pretty much all got silver sparkles) but that's the only problem.

They have the most incredibly pigmented and silky mattes. Better than MAC and on par with Urban Decay. But even Urban Decay doesn't have that incredible matte red, and matte neon pink that Sephora does.

I suspect they have more "fatty" binders in their shimmer and glitter formulas than other brands, because even the glitter shadows go on creamy and smooth. This also means the shadows stay on longer and go on more evenly. To the touch, the only other brand I know with the same "fat" levels is Dior. 

You get 2.3g of product for US$13 or SGD19, and they're about the size of Make Up For Evers. (MAC and Urban Decay pans only hold 1.5g and they cost more.)  

In Singapore, Sephora is holding a promotion where the purchase of 2 pans gets you a free 3-well magnetic palette free. (The thing's sturdy, has a big mirror, and is pretty nifty. It comes with a little "key" to safely lift your pans out of their cases without messing with pins or risking incidents when you slip and gouge out a chunk of shadow with your nail.)
