Tissue-resident Tregs: Local Immunity Heroes
Tissue-resident Tregs are FOXP3⁺ CD4⁺ T cells that adapt to specific tissue environments (such as skin, adipose tissue, gut, lung, muscle, and brain) to suppress excessive inflammation, promote tissue repair, and maintain local immune homeostasis, rather than circulating through the bloodstream.
Why they are called “Local Immunity Heroes”
Unlike circulating Tregs, tissue-resident Tregs:
Stay long-term in specific tissues
Sense local stress, damage, or infection
Fine-tune immune responses on-site
Support tissue regeneration and function
