Hey! Hope you're doing well. Could you explain why Stony Silence doesn't prevent the return to hand ability of Metalwork Colossus?
Whenever a card refers to a permanent type or subtype collectively with only that type/subtype, it’s referring to permanents of that type and not other cards of that type in other zones. Stony Silence specifically prevents "activated abilities of artifacts" from being activated, and since it just says artifacts and not "artifact cards", it only means artifact permanents on the battlefield and not artifact cards in other zones. Metalwork Colossus's activated ability only works from the graveyard, so it's safe from Stony Silence.

I’ve been thinking about Powerstone Shard, and I came to an exciting realization: it’s time to bring my best friend, Metalwork Colossus, back to Standard. Seriously, you just need 2 Powerstone Shards and you’ll have 10 of the cost for Colossus done (2 shards tapping for 2 each, plus 3 cmc reduction each).
I dunno about you all, but I’m excited! I’ll come up with a sample decklist for this soon.
