In Metro State's theatre production, "58 Months", I played the role of a lawyer. This man is named Tom, and he is the man my character was based on. Nice guy. I asked if I could take a selfie with him, and he awkwardly agreed. I'm glad to have the played him.

UX Programs (Education vs Experience)

Great games....

There were several great games among highly-ranked teams over the last few days.  Here are the highlights:

*  Augustana and Wisconsin-Whitewater (both Top 5 NCAA Division III teams) went wire-to-wire in a double overtime thriller that saw Augustana prevail, 96-94, behind Hunter Hill's 41 points.

*  NCAA Division II #3 Florida Southern defeated #2 Bellarmine (both teams were undefeated) in overtime, 101-96.  I think that it's impressive that BOTH teams have played an outstanding non-conference schedule.  Florida Southern has already played Delta State, Metro State, Southern Indiana and Bellarmine.  Bellarmine has already played Findlay, Christian Brothers and Florida Southern. 

*  NCAA Division II's #1-ranked West Liberty held on to defeat Holy Family, 89-86.  Devin Hoehn hit a 3-pointer from 25 feet with 6 seconds remaining for the win.  Holy Family came into the game with a 7-1 record and shot 16-29 from the 3-point line for the game.

*  NCAA Division II #5 Colorado - Colorado Springs defeated Metro State for the first time in program history, 69-66.  All-Everything junior Derrick White finished with 32 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 assists.  After defeating conference foe Regis by 41 points the following day, the Mountain Lions move to 10-0 and Head Coach Jeff Culver picked up his 100th win.

*  The NAIA's #15 Georgetown College (now 12-2) handed #8 Martin Methodist their first loss of the season, with an overtime win, 89-86.  After shooting 35.5% in the first half, Georgetown shot 62.5% in the second half and OT.

*  Tonight is a big showdown between two nationally-ranked, undefeated teams: Lincoln Memorial travels to Newberry, and it should be a dandy.

....And the NCAA Division II National Championship Game is Set

Tonight, we had two really good games, featuring four very good, well-coached teams. 

In the first game, it was Central Missouri knocking off #1 Metro State, 71-69, with the Mules scoring a bucket with one second remaining.....and withstanding a heck of an effort by Metro's Mitch McCarron, who almost converted a three with one second remaining.  Heck of a game.

In the second semi final, it was West Liberty over South Carolina-Aiken, 86-83.  The game was back and forth throughout the second half, especially within the last five or six minutes.  We saw really good guard play from both teams.  West Liberty's Shawn Dyer was just tremendous in the second half, finishing the half with 22 points, giving him 30 for the game.  All American Cedric Harris was steady and solid all night as well.

So.....Saturday's National Championship game will feature Central Missouri vs. West Liberty.  It will be Central Missouri's first appearance in the title game since their title in 1984, when they won it. (As a note, Central Missouri's women's team won it in 1984 as well, becoming the only NCAA Division II school to have their men's and women's teams win the title in the same year). 

West Liberty has been a dominant program for years (winningest program within NCAA Division II in the last five years), but they have never been to the National Championship game.

The NCAA Division II National Championship game will be at 3:00 (EST) on Saturday, and will be aired live on CBS.

Since I've mentioned the National Championship, and have mentioned Central Missouri......did you know that America's first National Champion was the University of Central Missouri?  They won it all in 1937....and again in 1938....it was America's first college basketball National Championship in 1937, and the school was then called Central Missouri State Teacher's College.

While this isn't a shocker, there are some really impressive coaches in the NCAA Division II National Semi Finals tonight.  All four are really good and do such a nice job with their respective teams.  As such, I thought that I would take a few minutes to pay tribute to each of these four coaches.  Below is the name and school for each head coach, along with a link to the bios for each of them.
