Opening day is always something to look forward to, especially when it’s opening day for the MLB season! And who says that we can’t enjoy a beautiful day at the stadium even while our team is playing away from home? Not the Mets! Today the Boy and I went to hang out at CitiField for the Mets Opening Watch Party where we scored free field level seats and watched from their brand spanking new jumbotron with our family.
The Boy has developed a keen interest in sports over the past year, and sports spectating is an especially great family activity that we can all do together. Baseball in particular is great, because CitiField is conveniently located in Queens and easily accessible by public transportation so that we don’t have to deal with parking and large masses.
It was a great day and the Boy was so excited to be at the stadium where we not only got to watch the game but play games as well. There were so many kid-friendly activities planned for this special event, we didn't know where to begin! Among all the cool things to do, there were balloon making, face-painting, ball pitching, ball batting, sliding, and even bookmark making stations for the children to delight in.
And of course, we ate overpriced stadium food that’s completely unhealthy but oh-so delicious. Today the Boy ate chicken fingers, fries and Pepsi while I enjoyed a veggie burger but next time, we’ll have to try cracker jacks and mister softee in a baseball cap shaped plastic cup, not to mention those hot, hot dogs. There are also cool food venues at CitiField we still need to check out too, like burgers and shakes from Shake Shack, carby goodness at Pasta Bar from Rao's, and Fancy Grilled Cheeses from Josh Capon.
All-in-all, we had a magnificent day that ended with the Mets’ winning their first game of the season over the Washington Nationals. Go Mets!
