Gladio has been through quite the ordeal, and Ardyn is quite well aware of this---while Gilgamesh’s powers kept him far away from his proving grounds, Ardyn remembers his brother’s old friend well, and he can recognize the mark of his blade. Ardyn has one similar on his back just from training with him in their youth---Gilgamesh never was one to hold back, or to tolerate weakness, as he always thought Ardyn had, especially after he decided to become a Healer instead of a Chosen King. Gilgamesh had always supported Somnus first and foremost. It was no surprise when he locked Gladio away. Nor was it when he started executing those with the Starscouge that Ardyn had been attempting to heal.

It’s quite obvious, to Verstael and almost only Verstael, that despite Ardyn’s admission that Noctis and Luna are perfectly innocent in his plight, Ardyn harbors ill-will towards both due to their visual similarity to Somnus and Aera. Less obvious is his ill-will towards Gladio, who doesn’t look anything like Gilgamesh, but still bears the stupid and very visible tattoo of that accursed bird. Gladio must view his family’s crest as so honorable---he must view his quest to gain Gilgamesh’s blessing to be honorable. It was nothing of the sort. Gilgamesh murdered innocent people in the name of purification. And look where it got him---a haunted cavern where he could watch the world burn under the Gods’ reign of terror, each piece pushed in place by Ardyn, who Gilgamesh had had no small hand in setting up.

Ardyn grinds his teeth as he turns up the brightness of his headlights, searching the edge of the road for the fresh new King’s shield. 

But from Gladio’s perspective, Gladio’s just on the long hike back to Lestallum to meet his friends and clear his head when Ardyn happens to stop by him on the side of the road. Ardyn plasters on a smile, window already rolled all the way down as he slows down the car. “Ah! Hello there, old friend! Do you, by chance, need a ride? I’m sure it’s a long walk to where you’re going. And those dreadful daemons could be out any minute! We need to get you to a hotel!”

BASICALLY: so its implied they grew up together on radiant garden!!!!! i can see them as childhood friends until the darkness came and took their home. unlike leon and the others zack kind of starting traversing other worlds through traverse town instead of trying to get radiant garden back. and i feel like after the darkness comes cloud like CHANGES a lot and he doesn’t care about getting their families back he just wants to leave everybody behind and explore the world and leon and aerith and yuffie feel like he doesn’t care about them anymore and it’s sad and angsty when they meet again----but also they’re just as good at fighting and bantering as they used to be and its nostalgic and happy but it also hurts that he left and ahhh its good

BASICALLY: i view leon, aerith and yuffie as SIBLINGS they basically all lost their families in radiant garden and were taken in by cid. i think they’re so close and basically they’re just cute sibs, and now they are STRUGGLING to regain their lives now that radiant garden is back but some of their families and friends are still lost to darkness and now the king’s back and the apprentices are back and they just TAKE BACK OVER and aerith’s like HEY THERE. HEY NOW. U GUYS WERE EVIL. UR JUST GONNA BE OUR RULERS AGAIN. LETS TAKE A MINUTE AND THINK THIS THROUGH. so there’s like basically civil unrest and stuff within the restoration committee through aerith and i think they need to Deal With That ya know?

BASICALLY: i really view ignis as having been in love with gladio since they met when they were preteens and i think our gladio and ignis would have a really fascinating relationship because they’re both trans and my hc is that ignis didn’t figure out he was a man until he met gladio and gladio showed him that a man could be strong & capable & gentle & smart all at the same time which is something that ignis had never like. conceptualized really bc his dad was kind of a dumbass and all the other men in his life kind of felt like. Not Real People if that makes sense, or they just weren’t really nice to him bc of his family situation or the fact that he grew up poor.

so like as a default my ignis loves all gladios but YOUR GLADIO would be EXTRA SPECIAL HEART EYES BC THEN THEY COULD LIKE TRANSITION TOGETHER and FIGURE GENDER SHIT OUT TOGETHER and have THE MOST PRIDE-TASTIC BOND lmfao
