Thanks for the ask! You pretty much hit the nail on the head with the things you listed, but I’ll try to include some specific brands too. Typically it’s Mr Super Clear- UV Cut, assorted oil pastels, watercolour pencils (Fabre Castell) and craft-grade acrylic paints (Mont Marte). There are two of us and we have slight individual preferences for materials, but they’re mostly the same. Mr Super Clear is unanimously our favourite sealant, in the early days we used Testor’s but it just doesn’t create the same, nice surface. A good sealant can make a huge difference to doing a faceup, MSC is super great because the pencils go on like the face is made of paper! After that we tend to blush with crushed oil pastels and use water colour pencils to build up layers of detail on the face. Acrylic paints then go on top for bold details. We have collections of assorted brands of materials and some of them are better quality than others, but honestly as long as your pencils are sharp and you thin your paints down (we use Jo Sonia’s Stroke & Blend Medium) pretty much anything will do. ModC is going to start playing with an airbrush soon! But up to now these are our usual faceup materials (◡‿◡✿)
