As some may have noticed, I'm not in Mexico. I'm still living in Austin and happily married to La Gringa. But some things need to be addressed.
I took the Twitter handle @mgourmand as I thought that would showcase my love for food. But then I found other "gourmands" that sounded pretentious and snobbish, something that I'm not. I love food that makes my taste buds scream with joy and my mind race thinking how can I learn to make something this awesome.
There is a possible Slow Foods session with me in the future, but La Gringa pointed that if I wanted to pursue teaching others my family cooking traditions, I would need a more appealing name. I agreed. So came Mexicanity.
This is a concept that I've been joking a lot with her and it is one of our things. I need to preserve my Mexicanity, as she wants our kids to be proud of their Mexican heritage. Eating at Rosita's Al Pastor is a way to recharge my Mexicanity levels, according to me. I even call it The Mexican Embassy.
And my Mexicanity is what I want to share with others in the kitchen. I'm no chef and I have no professional training. I have a mother that cooks amazingly and taught me her secrets. And I want to share our magic with you.
There are more details coming up, so keep your eyes peeled.
