my second batch of metal gear characters hit with the splatoonification inator. With these my main constraint is that only the snakes and raiden can be inkfish, with this one being a little more inkfish heavy. under the cut is the species and my general thoughts on how i did

Returning from last time

Kazuhira: Koi Venom Snake: Octoling-Turned-Inkling. unethically. Ocelot: Catfish

newbies

Les Shitty Babies: All inklings, with obviously solidus being stuck in swim form being the most notable thing about the three of them. His splatana are red and blue because he named them democrat and republican and that’s just. easy. i imagine he’s a different ink color to them (likely similar to raidens) and so he can be hurt by them. dipshit. the power suit probably holds seperate ink tanks for them

Raiden: Octoling. this one also felt like the obvious path to go down? seperates him from the snakes (tho also gives him that connection to venom, yknow similar roles thematically) also i didn’t show it very well but i think sharing up his sneaking suit would be REALLY fun

Meryl: Strawberry nudibranch. she’s a sea slug! and a very pretty one at that. I think the sketchbook doodles came out nicer then the one digital illustration that comes first but aug. i like it

Fatman: clam. fat clam. based on the thought that it would be funny to replace the pearl with a bomb. now is that a pearling clam? idk i didn’t think to look up how that works before writing this section. follows the time honored tradition in splatoon where it is just a person with something nautical for the head

Otacon: Hermit Crab like huey in the last one! i wanted to keep him a crustacean cause both his parents are and i had such a hard time figuring something out because i wanted to keep the spirit of his hair but omg am i so happy with how otacrab came out

Eva: bettafish. i found these gorgeous betta fish called fancy yellow stars that i based her off and then gave her sharp teeth because she deserves it

Ocelot: Catfish Kaz: Koi Paz: Rainbow Parrotfish The Boss: Bleached sea anemone Strangelove: Krill Psycho Mantis: Mantis Shrimp Huey: hermit crab Quiet: Wrought Iron Butterflyfish (<- fucking beautiful fish. for the record) the Snakes: Inkfish (bb solid are inklings, venom was an octoling) Sunny: Yellow Sea Urchin

SO LIKE. overall while making these i was worried that they werent creature enough to be splatoon-esq until i realized that mmm actually. a lot of the time splatoon designs are actually just a person with a fish feature slapped on top of it like there are some stand outs ily finn feeder but like. i had to creature up the inklings so they didnt feel out of place (and side note il probably start just drawing inkfish like this its really fun) so like. idk overall im happy with it. esp mantis idk if its just bc mantis shrimp are really pretty to begin with but waow mantis came out good
