ֹ ⑅᜔ ׄ ݊ ݂ IZUKU MIDORIYA ۪ ֹ ᮫
Midoriya had been watching for the whole game. His clenched hands quivered in front of his face while his eyes flicked between the scoreboard and your face.
As soon as the whistle's last screech reached his ears, his head fell forward. His heart ached not only because you lost, but because this was your last time on the court.
As the captain of your team, you forced yourself to keep a strained smile. When the game ended, when you comforted your teammates, when you saw Midoriya in the hallway.
Yet, as soon as he spoke up, you couldn't keep it together.
Instinctively, he took you in his arms and you broke down. Feeling his hand rub your back only made you clutch the back of his shirt even harder.
You wished to say something. Crack a joke to ease the situation, but the words were all jammed in your throat. Instead, you kept sobbing on his shoulder and he didn't say anything, knowing that no compliments were able to stop you from hurting.
ֹ ⑅᜔ ׄ ݊ ݂ KATSUKI BAKUGO ۪ ֹ ᮫
You were walking out of the sports center's parking lot when two sharp honks startled you. As you turned, your eyes landed on a familiar car.
"How was the game?" Katsuki asked while you fastened your seatbelt.
With the sharp answer you gave him, it didn't take long for him to do the math. It was your way of saying that you lost without crumbling, and he never pushed further than that.
A few minutes later, you stopped in front of a grocery store, which surprised you since Katsuki was the type to buy everything he needed during the weekend.
He got out without a word but, to your surprise once again, came to open your door.
Inside, the two of you didn't talk much. He picked various items and threw them in the basket in your hands. It took you a while to notice what he was doing.
Your favorite chips, favorite candies, favorite ice cream. Even the snacks he always refused to buy due to their price increasing each time you saw them.
At the checkout, he pulled your hood up and wrapped an arm around your shoulder.
"Can't believe it takes that for my boyfriend to show me some love," you said while walking out.
"Shut up before I keep all that shit for myself."
His reply was just as usual, but his tone, sharp yet gentle, sold his contentment out. You were no longer leaving him outside; your earphones were in your pocket, and you were giving him your usual cheeky grin.
Katsuki didn't mention your game for the rest of the evening. However, he let you scream your lungs out in his car to Bruno Mars, eat junk on his couch, and binge-watch an awful show for hours.
ֹ ⑅᜔ ׄ ݊ ݂ SHOTO TODOROKI ۪ ֹ ᮫
Shoto found you staring into the blue with your arms wrapped around your legs. When he made his way to you, you gave him a quick, embarrassed smile.
"The gap was small. You were really close."
"Close wasn't enough," you retorted with a sigh, getting up.
Instead of pushing further, he simply took your hand in his. He didn't always have the words you needed, and you were used to it after all.
"There's a park not so far from here. Want to walk a little?"
You nodded. It was a habit of yours to spend hours at the park when you were upset. Due to all sorts of occupations, you had given up on your little routine a long while ago.
You turned to look at his habitual peaceful face, bathed in the sunset's warm colors. "Thank you."
"It's the least I can do," he replied before giving your hand a little squeeze. "You were awesome. I mean it."
ֹ ⑅᜔ ׄ ݊ ݂ EIJIRO KIRISHIMA ۪ ֹ ᮫
You were sprawled on your bed when someone rang the doorbell. You opened the door to meet a Kirishima holding an average sized white box.
"Hey baby! What's up?" You moved aside to let him in.
You followed him to the kitchen, where he set the box on the counter and revealed a home-made cake.
"A cake for our star..." You read out loud.
The cake was messily decorated. A weirdly applied frosting, all sorts of doodles, a badly executed piping on the top of the cake.
Then, your gaze landed on the picture. You and your team grinning at the camera with W fingers. Crouched at the front, you held the golden cup with a triumphant look.
You covered your mouth, feeling your eyes getting watery all over again.
He spread his arms out, letting you come closer until he was able to wrap his arms around you. "Mina did say you would tear up. Denki agreed but said it would be because of how ugly it is."
He chuckled. "You have no idea how proud I am of you. I know this surely doesn't matter to you now, but I'm for real."
"Do you know how many people would have given up earlier? School, work, friends and sports—you always found a way to balance it all."
The two of you remained silent for a moment, just like you were giving an opportunity for his words to sink in.
"You're even manlier than your own man. The audacity." Without notice, he scooped you up and spun you in the air while complaining about how much it "hurt" him to be the less manly one in the relationship.
ֹ ⑅᜔ ׄ ݊ ݂ DENKI KAMINARI ۪ ֹ ᮫
As soon as he spotted you, Kaminari sent his phone to his pocket and stood up.
"Heyyy, give me that, give me that."
But your grip on the straps of your bag didn't loosen even as he reached for them.
Not once did your eyes meet his since you arrived.
"I..." You let out a quick breath. "I..."
His hands reached to cup your face. You didn't notice how his gaze softened as he saw you cry, since yours was fixed on the bag in your hands.
Your chin shuddered. You couldn't bring yourself to say it, and he knew.
"I know, I watched the whole thing."
While rubbing your tears dry, Kaminari searched for the right thing to say. He couldn't say you would have it the next time. He couldn't say that you'd come back stronger. It was over.
"I'm so sorry babe," he whispered before leaving a kiss on your forehead. "You're the best."
You nodded with tight lips, which made him smile. He kissed you once again and took your hand.
"Come on, let's go. You deserve the best evening after this game."
The rest of your day was filled with laughter, horrible jokes, and kisses. For once, you didn't really mind your boyfriend's rambling.
The pain your loss left was still there, somewhere, but he made sure to not give you a single second to think about it.
ֹ ⑅᜔ ׄ ݊ ݂ HANTA SERO ۪ ֹ ᮫
Sero's concern kept growing as he saw every single member of your team except you. "I think she's still in the changing room," the last one told him.
A few minutes of searching later, he found you weeping on the ground, head on your knees.
He didn't need to ask; Sero sat next to you and pulled your head to his chest.
"We lost Hanta... and it's my fault." Your fingers dug deep in his hoodie while you forced the words to come out.
"If I didn't mess up, we'd... we'd win...we were so close. It's my fault. It's my fault. It's my fucking fault. If only..." Your voice seemed to die every time you repeated it.
He didn't reply immediately. When he did, it wasn't what you expected.
"You know, there were two girls next to me. High schoolers, I guess. They were absolutely insane for you. I swear every time you scored, their screams kept getting louder. 'GO Y/N!!! YOU CAN DO IT!! LET'S GO!! YASSSSSS!!' Almost lost my hearing mid-game."
"Even when the game ended, they were the only thing I could hear. 'YOU WERE AWESOME!! WE LOVE YOU!!' Like damn, why were they louder than me, your boyfriend?"
You snorted at his mimicking of their screaming voices. He couldn't help but chuckle as well.
"All that to say...yes, you lost, but that didn't change much for so many. I mean, you chased your dream for years, and now you're part of someone's dream."
"Yes, you messed up here and there. Everyone does, so what? I'm still the happiest man on Earth because I'm dating an amazing athlete AND someone people can look up to. Plus you're hot."
You giggled as Sero suddenly shook you. "You're. Fucking. Badass."
It didn't take long before you both got up. On your way to the exit, you fell on Sero's seat neighbours who were, just as he mentioned, loud as ever.
