Hyderabad Employees Volunteer to Bring Environmental Awareness to 8,600+ Students
Demonstrating that giving back is essential, S&P Capital IQ employees in Hyderabad recently visited 22 schools around the local area to stress the importance of environmental awareness. This effort was in conjunction with the launch of McGraw Hill Financial. More than 200 employees worked with over 8,600 students to clean school grounds and engage in classroom conversation about the importance of taking care of India’s valuable natural resources. Volunteers also held elocution and essay-writing competitions to reinforce concepts of environmentalism and respect for nature.
“When we decided to plan a big offsite volunteerism effort in recognition of the MHFI brand launch, we were not sure how to gather volunteers to cover 22 schools on such short notice. But to our surprise, the response was overwhelming,” said Senior Director Prabhakar Rao Kotapati, S&P Capital IQ. “I always wonder to see the spirit of service of our volunteers, which exhibits their commitment to community service. This project reinforced our strengths to do more for our community,” he continued.
Volunteer Sunitha Lakshmi Kumari Thadepalli also commented on the experience: “It is our responsibility to serve the society around us. I feel proud that I participated in one such program. It was a wonderful experience spending time with school children.”
This program aligns with the Hyderabad office’s Green Team initiative, launched in June on the eve of “World Environment Day”, to measure the amount of food that is wasted in the site cafeteria each day – food which might otherwise go to feed India’s homeless population. Green Team volunteers worked to measure the uneaten food by weighing each day’s discarded food and tracking the waste. Since launching the program, the Hyderabad office has reduced its food waste by 50%.
We're very proud of all the great work by our employees around the world. MHFI truly believes that giving back is essential.
