MI ABAGA - YOU RAPPERS SHOULD FIX UP YOUR LIVES
I think this song by MI Abaga is very relevant to the Naija hip-hop scene. Since MI blew up with illegal Music 2, no Naija Hip-Hop rapper has been able to compete with "afrobeats" music makers for recognition. Before M.I, naija blessed Africa Hip-Hop with the likes of Mode 9, Edriss Abdukareem, Ruggedman, and Eldie d Don. Ice Prince and the Choc City guys held it down for a while but couldn't sustain their relevance for long. Then came lil Kesh and Oladmide, but these guys leaned towards the afrobeats more than Hip-Hop. However, there are other young rappers like Vector, Poe, Saeon Moruda, Phyno and Louisville who are working hard but due to the heavy patronage of the afrobeats genre these new guys are not really getting the recognition they deserve. Even with this, i think these guys need to work harder and 'fix up their lives.' I hope this song provokes Hip-Hop musicians in Naija to up their game.
