I just read this interesting post on the New York Times about this Asian-American Actress, Mia Katigbak, wanting better theater roles for more Asian-American actors and actresses. She was a student at Barnard College in the 1970s and she was the only Asian-American in that class. At that time, the department head asked Mia to join a Molière comedy. However, she was not the lead character, but behind the screen, because there were no Asians in France in the 1970s. She is the co-founder of the National Asian-American Theater Company. She would be giving a lot of important roles to Asian-Americans. She is considered as a mother or nurturer at the National Asian-American Theater Company. She is helping a lot of Asian-American actors and actresses get lead roles in plays and helping them strive in that career. After reading this, it’s just amazing how she is doing all that she is doing for the Asian-American community. So many people over look Asian-Americans and she is making a difference in the community of theater. Her voice is changing the aspect of Asian-Americans in theater and I hope that more and more Asian-Americans are getting the roles that they are working hard to get.
