ASSASSINS: This striking work looks at the lives, loves and lunacy of nine American assassins, including John Wilkes Booth, John Hinckley, Lee Harvey Oswald and Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme. Both serious and satirical, the musical has gone on to win five 2004 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, bringing to the stage a (shooting) gallery of some of history’s most notorious players – the men and women who have attempted to kill American presidents. January 30 - February 23 at the Carnival Studio Theater.
NABUCCO: Said to have launched the career of Giuseppe Verdi, one of the greatest Italian opera composers, Nabucco captures the voice of the ancient Hebrews and their struggle as exiles. Experience the anguish as Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylonia, destroys the Temple and forces the Hebrews from their homeland. Follow their journey as they are taken into bondage, and feel their grief. Will they survive in this new land or will they perish? And can love between two people endure in such a place? Saturday January 25 - Saturday, February 8. Miami performances are at the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, while Fort Lauderdale performances are at the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
ONCE: Broadway's 2012 Tony Award-winning Best Musical based on the Academy Award-winning film, tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. THE RITE OF SPRING: The Cleveland Orchestra brings to Miami Igor Stravinsky's powerful ballet score, The Rite of Spring. The outrageous costumes, unusual choreography and bizarre story of pagan sacrifice caused much controversy during its debut in Paris, causing audiences to riot in the streets. But now, the music in this score is admired for its brilliance and innovation. The show will feature Simon Keenlyside, one of the world's most sought after and charismatic singers, noted for his versatility and highly charged performances onstage. January 31 - February 1 at the Knight Concert Hall.
SHEN YUN: New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts returns to Broward Center with an unparalleled blend of energy, grace and originality with all-new performances. Shen Yun is traditional Chinese culture as it was meant to be experienced, bringing to the stage dozens of dancers in dazzling costumes moving in seamless, flowing patterns while a full, live orchestra blends East and West like no other. January 31 - February 2 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
