“how does it feel that you’re wrong?” he counters childishly, not once looking away from the mug he’s drying to make eye contact with her. after all, she is wrong. no one is truly ‘nobody’; not for their entire lives. maybe wonwoo’s lucky to have already become someone, or to have the privilege despite what he’s done in his life, but he’s one of those people that always believes everything happens for a reason. every person was put on this earth for something, even if her reason seems to be pissing him off by acting like a spoilt brat. “I’m more than what I seem on the surface.” my victims have made the news, despite constant murders throughout the city ever hour. I’m one of the top hitmen in an incredibly large and powerful gang. what more proof does there need to be to prove he’s not a nobody?
best of all, at least to him, however, is that he’s somebody to the people most important to him. to mingyu, he’s his soulmate, and mingyu is his own. to seulgi, he’s a reading buddy; someone to share their more mundane interests with. even to hyoseong, he’s a rival; someone that, like she does for him (as much as they likely both hate to admit it), pushes her to be better, quicker, more precise at her job. despite wishing she’d fall into a volcano, he’s still someone to her. so by no means, in his opinion, is he a nobody.
“but if I were to be a nobody, I don’t think it’d be too bad. not anymore. I used to think being someone was all that mattered, but I’ve matured since then. you should try it one day— growing up.”

ordinarily, he would leave her to it, partly because he’s just not someone who cares about the majority of the population, but also because from the experiences he’s had with her so far, he thinks that maybe if he reached his hand up, she might bite him or something. he wishes he could say this is the first time she’s burst into the cafe and caused a scene, and maybe the other customers would have believed him if it isn’t for the long suffering sigh that passes his lips the very second he spots her. she’s looking around and wonwoo fears she’s looking for a victim, so he manoeuvres around the counter, leaving the mug he had been cleaning behind.
approaching her, he extends his arms to steady her (and essentially, pin her in place where she can focus on him and not terrorise innocent customers like usual — as much as wonwoo loves watching others suffer, he doesn’t like to suffer, and that’s typically what happens when she’s around). “what do I have to do to get you to leave without pissing anyone off?” he asks, tone low and gaze hard. a moment later, once he’s sure she won’t run off like a spoilt child, he slowly lets go of her forearms and reaches up to flatten out messed hair. he’s not sure why he does it instinctively (actually, he is, but the topic brings a tint of pink to his cheeks so he pushes it to the back of his mind), but he does and he quickly yet smoothly retreats his hands back to his sides. “or are you hellbent on ruining my afternoon?”
Why the heck were they folding origami cranes? According to a tale one would live a happy and healthy life if they could fold 1000 cranes. That was why he was sitting next to Eunha, folding like an idiot, bored as heck and annoyed by her constant blabbering. At the beginning it had been kind of a success experience when he had understood how to fold it, but now it was just exhausting. Eunha wanted to have perfect cranes, so whenever a crane was crooked, he had to repeat every single step accurately. He sighed, flipped a paper around and cut his finger with a fine edge. Blinking, he watched a big drop of blood running out of the small wound. Then he held it in front of Eunha’s face. “Yah, I cut myself. Do something. Suck it or something.”
it comes out by accident. for years, he had managed to avoid her, and it’s only been in recent months that he’s began to run into her again. so when he passes her, it’s a surprised “eunha-ssi?” that escapes him. it seems like a wrong move the moment he says it. he’s no longer a part of black lotus, no longer working under her, so there’s no point being familiar. he told himself that when he sees her, he has to be professional and distant, cut off all previous memories.
if acknowledging her, he should have referred to her as babydoll. keep it professional and distant, just like he wanted to. but now that he’s called her eunha, it’s like crossing an invisible line. a line that divides strangers and acquaintances. acknowledging that he knows her, that she knows him, that they have some sort of history together, isn’t something he wants to do.
somehow, he still feels a little guilty for leaving when he sees her. he’s not sure why. leaving was the best thing that happened to him. so he coughs. “excuse me, babydoll,” he corrects himself. an attempt at minimalizing the damage.
“Are you cold?” the words almost sound as if they are in judgement, but the meaning is far from it. Seulgi’s gotten into a terrible habit of being a lot more gentle around some members more than others. She didn’t necessarily care about the cold and cruel image she had but...she didn’t want those she wasn’t particularly so fond of to get too comfortable, or to think that they could step on her.
But for the girl before her? She knew this would never be the case. She even had seniority over Seulgi and still sounded as if she adored her...and honestly, it was always touching. It was another reason for Seulgi to be willing to serve, perhaps not exactly with a smile, but with a more gentle sense of things.
This is what leads her to find the thermostat, turning it down just a little bit before she digs up another throw blanket, returning to Babydoll where she eases herself down beside the other woman, wrapping the extra blanket around her shoulders. “Do you need anything?”
“hey, listen here to me.” seulgi’s words start out a little firm, but her grasp on the younger woman’s shoulders is gentle, fiery eyes alight with an encouraging flame rather than one of anger. “you did what you thought was best, and that’s what matters, okay? there’s nothing that can be changed now except for your outlook for the future and if this situation comes up again. don’t let it weigh you down—that’s what will cause trouble later.” she’s very aware that she’s talking to a senior member even if she herself is the older one, but she can’t help but take on the maternal flare that’s always quietly resided within her. “but even then, you know you can come to me and i’ll wipe the floor with anyone who tries to get in your way.” this is where seulgi lifts a hand, index finger gently poking at the tip of babydoll’s nose, a soft smile forming on the assassin’s lips.
If you could have one person from unaffiliated, spd, or even another gang to be recruited in vanguard. Who would you choose?
Honesty Hour: Accepting➡️ ( not a canon conversation )
“Hm… Well, not Juyeon. Not anyone who isn’t already somehow all caught up in this life. I would never pull a person into Vanguard if they have a chance at… safety. So, that narrows things down a bit, I guess. I suppose I’d have to say Eris. I know she’s loyal to her own gang, so it’d never happen, but I mean… it’d make things easier, right? Don’t get me wrong, things are already manageable and simple enough, but… still. That’s the only person that really comes to mind. Though I don’t think I’d really pick anyone from where they are and place them in Vanguard because that would only leave us with a member who likely doesn’t want to be there… and that’s… you know… kind of dangerous.”
