“ were you really about to leave without saying goodbye? “
Daryl hadn't planned on staying at Hilltop as long as he had. He had responsibilities back at Alexandria and his plan was to head out at first light. He had been packing his things, careful to not leave anything behind and making sure that Dog had been fed properly and given water so he could make the trip right along with him. He was lost in thought when he heard someone clear their throat behind him.
Connie watched as he turned, eyes narrowed as her hands started to fly. 'Were you really about to leave without saying goodbye?' It was bad enough that she'd woken up to find the side of the bed that he'd been sleeping in empty and it was barely daylight. Now she found him packing his bike up like his life depended on it. She frowned, glaring at him.
He had the good graces to look ashamed. And he just didn't look it, he felt it, too. He stopped his packing and leaned against the seat of the bike. 'You were sleeping peacefully. Didn't want to wake you."
She rolled her eyes then and stamped her foot. 'That's such bullshit, Daryl Dixon.' And he knew it. She moved closer to him but remained outside of his reach. 'You leave without telling me goodbye, and I don't ever want to see you again. Understood?'
It took him a minute to catch up on what she had just said, but as the realization hit him, his eyes lifted to her face. He moved, reaching for both her wrists and pulling her close. 'Won't happen again,' he promised her, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to her lips.
'Better not. Because I meant what I said.'
