Land Rig Livin
I've been in West Texas for over a week now. It's been a whirlwind of a day in the office in Houston, a day in the office in Midland, training and starting a new job, and settling into my second rig yesterday. I will be living in my little trailer here for the next two weeks, so I am finally unpacking and pretending I actually live here, which has been fun!
Unlike offshore rigs, you do your own cooking, cleaning and laundry. It's a nice change in my opinion, because it makes the trailer feel a little more homey. I finally got around to taking some pictures to show all y'all what life is like out here!
Pretty cute, right?! I did plenty of scrubbing the first day here, and thankfully I had a lot of help setting up. At one point there were 4 men bumping into each other fixing things. We were replacing lightbulbs, fixing the toilet, putting in doorknobs, and setting up computers and internet and phone lines and mouse traps. The dryer doubles as a little more counter space for chopping things, and I eat/sleep on the little couch. (and try not to think about who has done so before me...)
The truck on the left is the one I get to use. Notice all the mud on the sides. So legit. Also, the grate on front is a "cattle pusher". I laughed at that... until I learned its a real problem.
Beautiful, right? Supposedly there's a burrito truck a couple miles away out there. (The directional driller stopped by and delivered me a burrito for lunch!) So far that's all I know of that's in range...
Can you see my new roommate? I feed him peanut butter off of mouse traps, and he invites his friends over. We are pretty hospitable around here.
Hanging in the mud lab with Mickey.
That's my rig! The sunrise was so beautiful this morning that I walked around our rig site after I finished my reports, just drinking my coffee and taking pictures and not even pretending to be working hard. ;)
Ain't that the niftiest taste of home?! My sisters hooked me up with a french press travel mug and Grand Rapids coffee. Now I'm ready for anything, anywhere. Literally.
