michaelbearden: I first met Chrissy when I was still living in nyc! I got a call saying they needed a band in nyc for a new artist. I said, “who is it?” They said Christina Aguilera. I said, “the Genie in the bottle girl?” My friends David Frank (from the group the system) and Steve Kipner had written and produced the song. I spoke to David about her and he had nothing but great things to say. The band was assembled and we did a bunch of industry promo stuff for her. I fell in love with her voice immediately! I had gone straight from Whitney’s band to my long tenure as Madonna’s Music Director starting in the early 90’s. So when I heard Chrissy’s voice, I was excited about the legacy of the female artist. I worked a few more times with her on various things. She is still one of my favorite voices ever. In a seemingly endless sea of light, whispery, limited range, auto-tuned voices flooding the airwaves, it’s nice to see a true voice still in the game. Whatever one thinks of her or her art, that voice is undeniable! Chrissy has her 8th studio record coming out this Friday. It’s called, ‘Liberation’ I just thought I’d share. M~
