(Submission) Landon Wordswell ft. Michael Bernier - The Numbers Game
Michael Bernier is an *amazing* Stickist, that is, one who plays the Chapman Stick. He's played in Stickmen with King Crimson's Tony Levin and Pat Mastelloto (who also played with Mr Mister... go figure!). This is his new solo album... highly recommended!
An Evening with Tony Levin, Michael Bernier and Pat Mastelotto
Chapman Stick, Chapman Stick and Drums are the instruments they played and King Crimson, Tony Levin and Stravinsky are the songwriters of the songs they played. They called themselves the StickMen.
A night of extreme improvisation and progressive rock is what I witnessed. They played some King Crimson songs (including Elephant Talk off course, Tony Levin was there) with a different yet really nice vibe. First, because there was no guitar but two Chapman Sticks, then, because Pat took an electronic drum and a looper with him to simulate Bill Bruford’s/Gavin Harrison’s drums on some two-drummer songs and finally, because Papa Bear sang (nothing to worry for Adrian). They also played Tony’s Stickman album in its entirety (He was promoting that), some improvs and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. The Stickman songs were amazing because they were composed especially for the instrument and had a nice prog/experimental vibe, the improvisations (one each) where really good but got boring at some point after 10 minutes but they spiced them up again and saved them and Stravinsky’s cover was beautiful as always.
The show was really good, awesome music with a crazy and funny twist. Tony never seizes to amaze me. He is, to me, the greatest progressive bassist that has ever lived. Pat blew my mind, I always thought of him as the not-so-good KC drummer, but he made me change my mind that night; and the new guy, Bernier played the Chapman Stick like no one else, he had a different approach of the instrument than Tony.

King Crimson project STICK MEN shares journey of "S.M.U.D.G.E."
Drummer (Pat Mastelotto) and Bassist/Chapman Stickist (Tony Levin) of the architectural Progressive Rock group, King Crimson, are working on an EP of spankin' new material for their trio's upcoming South American and European tour. Minus founding member and chapman stickist (Michael Bernier), touch guitarist Markus Reuter has already begun collaborating on the new stuff. Pat Mastelotto has been posting up the progress of the song, "Smudge," for us to have the opportunity to feel the excitement of a track forming. If you'd like to directly support the cause, you may buy the songs (in any format you choose) via bandcamp.
