"mavis was just saying she wished that brian didn’t hang around with ronnie so much." "yeah, well, he’s gotta make up his mind, hasn’t he? which way he’s going?" "'which way'?" "ah, never mind."
this seems more problematic than it is. don't worry, brian and ronnie were already dating at this time. brian's outing of the pair appeared to have zero consequences later on, as brian remained married to a woman and ronnie remained engaged to one.
