So some backstory.

In 1995, Walt Disney World opened a new ride called ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. It earned a lot of criticism for being too scary for kids but became a cult favorite. But one man saw more: one man saw a chance to promote it by...having Disney make a real UFO documentary. An entirely sincere and at times dark UFO documentary that also is a tortured promo for a Disney World ride. That man’s name? Michael Eisner.

This special was lost media for many years – it only aired in syndication in 1995, on irregular schedules in only four known markets – and became subject to an urban legend that Disney had, like, totally found the truth, man. Then they found it and uh...no. In truth parents complained about it taking a bit too much of a journey into imagination. But what did Disney find?

“From beyond the boundaries of our perceptions, intelligent beings are beckoning mankind to join the galactic community. This is the nature of alien encounters.”

Our host talks about Galileo to the background of that spinny thing in Tomorrowland and how we have to start living with the land for the terrifying aliens to like us. A preview of ExtraTERRORestrial is teased, but first...UFO time!

Retired Army Officer Clifford Stone describes how refusing an order to cover up his UFO sighting resulted in him being psychoanalyzed and kicked out of the Army.

So why did aliens contact us? What made them reach out to our good ol' spaceship Earth?

He then gives a history of alien encounters, with aliens drawn here by the atomic bomb. We learn about the death of pilot Thomas Mantell chasing a UFO in 1948, and then we’re off to Roswell! Don Schmidt from the Center for UFO Studies in Chicago tells us more about Roswell.

Then we’re off to Majestic 12. The UFO wave over D.C. in 1952 is called the first successful invasion by a foreign power since the War of 1812.

November 1975: every base in the US is visited by UFOs, changing codes in nuclear launch facilities.

1976: UFOs over Iran, planes go dead when they near it.

September 1991: Space Shuttle Mission 48 picks up an alien ship in a broadcast (according to NASA and Phil Plait these were ice particles)

We also learn that FEMA has guides to survive alien attack, while a law passed in 1969 makes it illegal for Americans to have contact with extraterrestrials.

We get psychedelic lightshows and then we go on an adventure through innerspace as Urich tells us microbes are sent by aliens as an “advance invasion force”. Yes, we’re adopting panspermia in this Walt Disney World special. The idea of alien life in meteorites was a common theme in the 90s, concluding in Bill Clinton giving a speech about one in '96 that would be edited and used as his speech about the alien signal in Contact

“But just as we explore the genetic package of alien life, visitors from space are routinely examining human specimens, abducting men, women and children in order to conduct disturbing biological experiments…”

We meet abduction investigator Budd Hopkins - who we've seen before on Sightings - and then uh. Hear alien abductee stories. This is the most controversial part. Here are real quotes from this WALT DISNEY WORLD SPECIAL:

“Often an object is inserted in the nostril or behind the eyeball or in the ear which we believe to be implants.”

“There were two holes drilled vertically along my shin into my leg…”

“They talk of the reptilian being sexually aggressive, and there are some that look like a praying mantis that are very mean and very violent…”

“It is a violation of your body, it is a violation of your space...on this Earth, when you are raped, when you are mugged...you have somewhere to go, to the police and at least give a report, whether they do something or not. But in this case, you have no one to talk to…”

“...both are ongoing abductees, with deep concerns about the chilling connection between aliens and their children...”
