Do y’all know A Child of Our Time, the oratorio by Michael Tippett inspired by the Jewish boy who assassinated a Nazi diplomat? I was thinking about how Luigi Mangione (and/or the shooter) is a child of our time and our country, mine at least. (Not that he’s a child, though he’s at the age where adult children age out of their parents’ health insurance.)
I’m tired of living in historic times.
The oratorio is beautiful and sad.

pls help an aspiring (ethno)musicologist out!
So I'm currently conducting research for my undergraduate dissertation on the cultural contexts of Michael Tippett's A Child of Our Time and Benjamin Britten's Curlew River, and I could really do with music tumblr’s help!
If you, or anyone you know, has sung/conducted/played either of these pieces in a professional, amateur or student setting, I would love to hear from you, and I would really appreciate you dropping me a message. (you also don't have to have sung these pieces in their entirety, if you've only sung the spirituals in A Child of Our Time I'd be just as interested to hear from you.)
If people could share this around/pass it on to relevant people I would massively appreciate it, every interview helps to build a bigger and better ethnography. I would love as many people to be involved as possible as I think this is really interesting research, and I hope you do too! (also the ethical review process was painstaking and I really want to make this worth it!!)
If anyone thinks they can help please drop me a message, and if not I would massively appreciate a reblog!
Thanks!
