Kinda upsetting that they don’t let you take photos at a museum, blah blah preservation I want to capture the art that moves me and keep it on me for safe keeping. Not to mention the lack of high quality photos for some pieces of work. I forgot the no photo policy and was told by a guard no photos after this one.
developing a fascination with the everest truther community re mallory/irvine and 1996. mostly this is through michael tracy on youtube- I should really look for some others- but tracy seems to be enough to put krakauer on the back foot.
it's really tracy himself that interests me here. he has the irritated youtube boomer persona that I take as an indicator that I'm listening to someone who's invested in what they're talking about.
tracy's definitely seeing the trees rather than the forest of the broader conversation around everest, but I don't hold it against him. all the people that are going to be reached by criticism of labor exploitation have likely been reached, and it's not like youtube videos from tracy are going to change anything. and he doesn't ignore sherpa issues when they're relevant to the topics he covers- natgeo 2019 was egregious, and natgeo didn't care whatsoever.
the appeal of all of this to me is just sitting back to watch him needle krakauer. I don't even dislike krakauer, but I like tracy, and tracy hates krakauer.
