Mickey had always been a funny character inside and outside the water, but his addictive style changed the uniformity of surfing in the 1960s. 

It was close to sunset and I remember seeing my uncle surfing in the most peculiar way. His head was down like he was studying his uncut toe-nails and both his arms swung open in opposite directions. Why did he hold this position for another 30-40 yards down the beach? 

At the end of the wave, he shouted and turned around on the board– revealing his addictive smile that was shining brighter than his own reflection. Then everyone in the lineup had style like Muñoz until the last ounce of sunlight.
