A couple of days past, Calum and Veronica has been together almost twenty four seven. Veronica finally met Michael, and Luke. They were hilarious but a bit strange. Michael dyed his hair way too much, and Luke was a giant compared to her. Calum was lighting her up like a light bulb. He genuinely made her happy, and feel silly but Ashton was still in the back of her mind. What was Makayden and Ashton doing? Were they happy?
It was friday, and there was no school for today so Chelsea and Veronica decided to have some girl time without Calum. Even though, he begged and whined to join. Even tried to sell them his friend secrets. “I can tell you what Michael does at night, c’mon guys I want to join!” Veronica just kissed his cheek, and pushed him out the door. Chelsea shook her head, and snickered about her brother. “He’s really something that boy.”
“I know.” Veronica smiled, and walked up the stairs to her room. She walked to her door to see a note sticking to it. She pulled it off, and opened it to see her mother’s elegant script. “I’ll be home at five to see Ashton’s parents. Be ready by then. Love, Mom. xox” Veronica groaned as she forgot that they were suppose to be going to Ashton’s house tomorrow for dinner. Chelsea seemed to be looking over her shoulder, making Veronica jump. “Sorry, and what’s this about Ashton’s house?”
“Ashton’s mom invited us for dinner tomorrow. I totally forgot about it.” She sighed, and opened her bedroom door. She hopped onto her bed, and put the note out of her eyesight. Did Ashton really want her there anymore? She knew she shouldn’t be thinking of him in that way. He had Makayden, and she had Calum. Cute, adorable, silly Calum but she kept thinking about Ashton. It’s like she can’t let go. “You know, Veronica. I can’t believe you’re going out with the humper. It’s quite annoying. He won’t shut up about it, I’m not even fucking joking. He literally skips around the house, saying he has a hot girlfriend. It’s pathetic, really.”
“He does not. I know Calum’s weird but not that weird.” Veronica laughed, and had to ask Calum the truth about this when she sees him next. Chelsea hopped onto the bed next to her and nodded. “I quote, “I have a hot girlfriend, you don’t hahaha” unquote. He thinks hes the coolest now because of you. Thanks for bring this riot into my house.” Veronica laughed, just imagining Calum doing that. “Okay, he’s really weird.”
“You don’t say?” Chelsea blinked, and snickered. Chelsea sighed deeply, and Veronica asked her what was wrong. Chelsea licked her lips, and looked at her. “Please don’t tell my brother this, please? I have a crush on someone...” Veronica promised that she wouldn’t tell Calum, and asked who it was with excitement. It was obvious it was either Michael or Luke. She bet it was Luke out of those two. Chelsea put on a dreamy expression, and sighed. “It’s Michael. He’s so cute, adorable and he likes ponies. I mean, ponies are weird but he makes them sound so interesting. The way he jokes around, and laughs makes me melt.”
Veronica sighed as she listened to Chelsea talk about Michael. She realized it sounded like Chelsea was in love with Michael by the way she spoke about him. Veronica smiled at how Chelsea got so animated, also. Using her hands, and her voice to make it seem it was happening right in front of them, Veronica finally stopped her, and smiled at her. “That’s so beautiful, Chelsea. Michael would be lucky to have someone like you!”
“Are you sure?” Veronica never seen Chelsea be so shy before. Veronica reassured her that she was gorgeous, and Michael would be stupid not to. Chelsea automatically hugged, and squeezed Veronica to death. “You’re hurting me, you know?” Chelsea flew back, and laughed. “I’m sorry, I just can’t believe it that someone would like Michael and I together.”
“Anyways, Let’s talk about what’s going to happen tomorrow night! Do you think Ashton would bring Makayden? Because if you find out, Calum would be more than happy to go with you since he hasn’t seen Ashton’s parents in forever.” Chelsea thought out loud, and Veronica wanted to call Ashton to see if it was still happening tomorrow. Veronica turned to grab her home phone to dial Ashton’s home phone. Chelsea clapped like a five year old, and Veronica was nervous to even call his house.
“Hello?” Amanda answered the phone, thankfully. “Hello, Amanda! It’s Veronica.” Veronica said timidly, and shyly. She didn’t know how to ask this, and she felt like her heart was going to burst out of her chest. “Veronica, it’s nice to hear from you! I’m excited to see you and your mom tomorrow night!” Veronica looked at Chelsea to give her a thumbs up about tomorrow. Amanda carried on about it. “I heard you and Calum are going out, are you going to bring him tomorrow too? Ashton’s bring his bitch of a girlfriend, Maddie, I think her name is. I hate her, I told Ashton to dump her but no, apparently he’s so set on it for something with his plan, I don’t know about that boy.”
“Yeah, I was planning to bring Calum, if you don’t mind and his plan?” Veronica questioned her. Ashton had a plan, what the hell? Ashton never mentioned to her anything about it, maybe it’s because he never wanted to tell her in the first place. Amanda said she didn’t know because he wouldn’t tell her anything about it. “That boy of mine, i don’t know. He knows how she treats him is shit but he keeps going out with her. I want her gone but I don’t want to be rude.”
“Is she that bad?” Veronica already knew this answer, and it was yes, she was that bad. Amanda groaned from over the phone, and it seemed not a happy groan either. “She’s horrible. She keeps being mean to Ashton for being blind. Saying he’s worthless because he can’t put movies on for her or pull out a chair. It’s sad, and I wanted her to leave but Ashton told me off, so I left it.” Veronica wanted to punch something, how dare she treat Ashton that way. He didn’t need to be treated that way by her or anyone for that matter. If Makayden did that in front of her, she’s slap her silly. “She sounds like she always do. She told me that when they got together to stop talking to Ashton, and lose his number.”
“What a bitch, she is.” Amanda sounded like she was shaking her head, and Veronica never seen Ashton’s mom like this before. She must’ve disliked Makayden a lot to say those things. Amanda said her goodbyes, and said that she couldn’t wait to meet her mother. Veronica said her goodbyes, and hung up. She looked at Chelsea, who was almost sleeping. “Finally, you’re off the phone. I’d thought you’d never get off.”
“Yeah, yeah. I know.” She sighed, and wondered what tomorrow was going to be like with everyone. Chelsea had to go home, and Veronica told Chelsea to tell Calum to be here at five, not a second later. Chelsea snickered before leaving her in her room alone.
xox
It was Saturday night already, and Her mother, Calum and her were waiting for someone to open the door. Veronica introduced Calum to her mother as her boyfriend, and her mother was confused at first but she acted kindly to Calum. Calum’s hand was sweaty in hers as he was probably nervous on seeing Ashton from the last time they talked. The door opened to see a small little girl with long brown hair, and a white dress on. She had a huge smile, and short little arms. “Herro, I’m Maddie. Who are you guys?”
“Hello, Maddie. I’m Martha, I’m Veronica’s mom.” Veronica’s mother bend down so she was the same height as the child. She held out her hand to the small child, who took Martha’s hand in her two small ones. Martha giggled before taking her hand back, standing up and straightening out her clothes. Amanda rushed out to them finally, and told Maddie to go sit in the dining room. “Hello! You must be Veronica’s mom! I’m Amanda, welcome to my home. Hello, Calum, and Veronica!”
“Thank you for having us, Amanda.” Veronica smiled, as they walked into Ashton’s house. It was clean like it always was but the smell of food scented threw out the house. “Who’s cooking?” Calum asked, since he knew that she couldn’t cook for anything. “Mark is, thank god.” Amanda laughed before telling them to have a seat at the dining room. They walked in to see Makayden and Ashton sitting together, and Maddie sitting next to Ashton. Calum squeezed Veronica’s hand, and kissed her on the cheek. Veronica told Calum about what Amanda told her, and that she wanted to rip Makayden’s face off.
“Hello again, Ashton. It’s nice to see you again.” Veronica’s mother was the first to say anything since Makayden probably didn’t want to talk to Veronica or Calum, and Ashton was blind, so there was that. Ashton smiled, and nodded. “It’s nice to see you again too.” Martha smiled before sitting down at the seat across from Maddie. Veronica furrowed her brows at Calum, since she got the seat across from Makayden. Calum shrugged before sitting in his seat in the middle. Veronica sat in the seat heavily. She looked across to see Makayden stabbing weapons into her with her eyes. Veronica quickly averted her eyes as quick. “Veronica?”
“Hey, Ashton.” Veronica spoke quietly, and didn’t want to say anything that might get Makayden any reason to kill her. Makayden whispered something into Ashton’s ear that made his face stone. Veronica decided to see what’s up with her attitude and just face it head on. “So, Makayden. I’ve heard from the grape vine about some things..” Calum nudged her but she just glared at him. She had to do something, she couldn’t let this go on. Makayden looked at her with narrow eyes. “I heard you’ve been saying some rude things to Ashton.” Ashton’s head snapped to wherever heard the voice come from.
“What are you talking about, Veronica?” Her mother’s voice soft from her seat. Veronica’s glad she had asked that, so she could continue on with her conversation. “I’ve heard that Makayden has been calling Ashton names like worthless, etc; because he’s blind, and couldn’t do stuff for her like a normal person who can see can.” Veronica never knew she had the guts to do this, honestly. She thought she was just going to ask Ashton about this in private but now,she guessed she’s doing it in front of everyone. “Isn’t that right, Makayden?”
“What’s it matter to you, you bitch?” Makayden screeched over to Veronica, defensively. Veronica’s mother spoke up for Veronica. “Don’t call my daughter a bitch when you’re obviously the bitch here. Calling someone worthless just because he’s blind. You should be ashamed of yourself. I might not be around for my daughter a lot but I always taught her to never look down on someone because they’re disabled in someway. Just because he’s blind, doesn’t mean he can’t do a lot more than he can.” Veronica was stunned by her mother like she wasn’t even real. Veronica was raised to believe that everyone was human, and they have feelings just like her. Just because someone was different doesn’t mean you treat them a different way than you treat someone else. Makayden looked like she was about to smack someone in their face in second. Calum just smirked at her, and Veronica just looked at Ashton, who seemed to try to hide a smile on his face.
Veronica knew she had to talk to her mom when they got home, and give her a huge hug for what she did. Amanda seemed to be in the room, and she was smiling at Martha too. Everyone almost jumped when Amanda announced the food was ready. Veronica wanted to know what else could go stupidly bad tonight.
