I am most vexed with myself today. Yesterday I was almost done getting the ALPS 2010 finished and I went and plugged the power in backwards 😭 It must have got at least 24v up the earth line.
It still powers up but only if the print head cable is disconnected, otherwise it makes a faint angry hissing noise...I guess something is shorted.
I might be very lucky and its just a board component I've fried, but the print heads are delicate so it doesn't look good 😟
Did some small fixing on the md2010pc. Gotta watch these ribbon cables! I took breaks and quit whilst ahead on this one. Looking at the scsi one I broke still hurts 😭
Advice about vintage Macs.
Lucky me scored another micro dry printer recently and it is a Mac one with a SCSI interface.
Drivers for this model don’t exist under windows, but it has some floppies with Mac drivers on and the internet tells me SCSI drivers for it are available on Linux.
So my options are to get a vintage Mac Power PC with some desktop publishing software and maybe a scanner.
The other option is a Linux PC with a scsi port, OR a windows PC with a scsi port running OS9 as a virtal machine.
Do any of my followers have any wisdom or advice? Thanks!
