Peer Micro Teach Evaluation 2
Student B facilitated a micro teach session that lasted approximately fifteen minutes. The session started with a brief introduction of the main topic before the aims were presented on the board. The session then progressed further with a demonstration of how to produce a fashion design sketch. In conclusion to the session there was a brief discussion of what the students should have learnt in the session and clarification of whether they enjoyed the session.
The set up and introduction to the session were basic. Student B had little or no experience of using Microsoft Office and how to set up the programmes to present to their learners. The introduction to the session was thorough and covered all the basic aims of the session. All learners were fully aware of their task and given a demonstration of how to draw using a mannequin template. Student B displayed a lot of nerves when delivering the session, which were a result of this being the first taught session they have facilitated.
The demonstration of the task was very basic and minimal subject knowledge was displayed. All learners were issued a hand out which was informative and all information that was needed for basic progression was evident. There was an extension task available to learners but it was displayed in a subtle way. Included on the hand out was a list of artists that higher ability students then could research in their own time to develop their understanding further.
During the facilitation of the session all learners seemed to be absorbed in the task. All learners were issued with a basic mannequin template in which they had to draw their design on top. Student B then walked around the room observing the class and offering guidance where possible.
Elements of Student B’s micro teach was an interesting session. There are many areas for development in which are evident. For Student B I would recommend that CPD in ICT would be something that would benefit them greatly as technology is quickly taking over in the deliverance of lessons. A greater understanding of the programmes used would benefit Student B in many areas of their teaching career. The demonstration of the task proved that there was minimal subject knowledge. I would advise that Student B enhanced knowledge prior to the taught session when teaching something that is unfamiliar or brand new to them. The refreshment of knowledge would ensure that students have faith in the competence of the teacher. Overall the session delivered by Student B was enjoyable with some areas of development. I believe by following the advice given by peers and tutors Student B could enhance the quality of their lessons and capture students’ attention more. Also with the enhancement of subject knowledge it will make Student B more confident in the classroom.
