I've heard a mixture of things about refrigerators and microwaves being allowed in your dorm room. I'm in Hayes, am I allowed to bring my own refrigerator/microwave or am I allowed to bring my own?

You are allowed to bring your own refrigerator and microwave into the room, just ensure that they are not plugged into bare extension cords, but rather into surge protectors instead.

Microfridge

I have a microfridge and its nice that it has a microwave on top and all but the design of the fridge itself is pretty terrible. On the inside of the fridge there are various bumps in the back of the fridge on each level so that you can only fit half of what you would normally be able to fit if it was just a completely flat area. Also, door on the fridge has a small compartment that can only fit things about the size of a stick of butter but then takes up much more space than that when it closes because of the extra material to make the socket. If you removed the socket completely I could easily fit two sticks of butter more on the top shelf. Also the microwave on top has a bunch of buttons that I have no idea what they do except for the popcorn one. Overall its an unintuitive system and a slight waste of space.

Do a good amount of people just bring their own fridge (and no microwave) instead of renting a microfridge. I'm just debating whether I should buy my own and not have a microwave(not sure how much I would use it if I had one) or rent the microfridge.

Yeah, a good amount do. And the friends I knew who didn’t have microwaves just asked to use mine the few times they needed it. You’ll definitely find friends who are willing to do the same for you!
