輕到可擺在蒲公英上!Boeing 成功研發全球最輕金屬 Microlattice
為節省行駛時所使用的燃油,一直以來不少汽車及飛機生產商都致力研發更輕巧的物料,如今這點終於取得重大突破,因為飛機生產商 Boeing 聲稱已成功研發出一種全球最輕的金屬物料 Microlattice,其輕巧程度甚至更可以擺放在蒲公英之上,而 Boeing 更計劃利用這種物料來製造飛機。
其實早於 2011 年,Boeing 就已曾經公開過這種 Microlattice 金屬的資料,而且經過多年改良之後,現時似乎終於可正式投入應用。據了解 Microlattice 是目前地球上最輕的金屬物料,比起發泡膠輕 100 倍有多,而且當中的結構更有多達 99.99% 是屬於中空,即類似人類骨頭的內部構造,但當中的中空管道卻是有規則地排列,每條管道比起頭髮細 1,000 倍,結構相當獨特。
雖然 Microlattice 相當輕巧,但卻並不代表脆弱,因為在這種中空式構造之下,反而會令其外層變得更加堅固,而且即使被壓扁及扭曲都可輕易反彈回原狀,另外亦具備衝擊吸收、防震、隔熱及隔音等功能,被科學家稱為是最強及最輕巧的金屬。
當然有鑑於 Microlattice 可以輕到吹走,所以即使 Boeing 利用這種金屬製造飛機,亦不要指望它會應用在機身及機翼之上,反而會採用在其他較重的組件之上,例如座椅、地板及牆壁等等,如此將可大大減少整部飛機的重量,以便節省更多燃料。

“With a density as low as 0.9 kg/m3, it is one of the lightest structural materials known to science. It was developed by a team of scientists from California-based HRL Laboratories, in collaboration with researchers at University of California, Irvine and Caltech, and was first announced in November 2011.
