Micromus posticus

A very small brown lacewing, found this one dead and dry on a university windowsill (there's this big windowed corridor that's an absolute deathtrap) so it's a bit beat up but nothing that makes it not identifiable.

Small lacewings aren't usually mounted spread like this since they can just be pointmounted but it wasn't a whole lot more time or effort and it makes looking at the wing venation more convenient. Also looks pretty. Certainly more fun to spread than microleps because at least they don't disintegrate into dust at the slightest blow

You do have to be that kind of masochistic minuten freak though. Personally have a love-hate relationship with them

Florvinge-larve (Micromus sp.)

Florvingerne (Hemerobiidae) minder på mange måder om guldøjerne (Chrysopidae) i både udseende og levevis.

Larverne af begge familier er glubske rovdyr med forkærlighed for bladlus, deraf det fælles tilnavn ‘bladlusløve’. Med de stor kindbakker griber den fast i sit bytte og udsuger det.

Larven, som er omtrent 10 mm. lang, er aktiv langt hen på året, og i milde vintre kan den ses i december måned.

The larvae of lacewings are ferocious predators with a predilection for aphids. Thus the nickname ‘Aphid lion’. With its large, powerful, sucking jaws it seized its prey and sucks it dry.

The larvae which reaches a length of approx. 10 mm. may be active late into autumn and this larva was still hunting well into december. Probably due to the mild winter thus far.
