Traviarti Tempranillo 2014
I recently sat down with Traviarti vigneron Simon Grant for a taste of his new 2014 tempranillo from Beechworth.
There’s not much about (only 55 dozens were produced) but it’s important you get the chance to try it yourself. It’s delicious.

His approach to making this wine is perfect for the grapes his vineyard has grown (in my humble opinion).
No new oak and a gentle approach to extraction mean you get a wine that’s flavoursome but never trying too hard, never feeling as if it’s forcing itself to be something it’s not.
It’s a medium bodied wine with classic tempranillo notes of cola, black tea and cherry, with hints of spice. It drinks beautifully on its own or with food, with its natural grape tannins providing gorgeous texture and structure.
Campbell Mattinson over at The Wine Front reviewed it recently, saying:
“Delicious wine. Dry but more-ish. Cherry, tight strings of tannin, toffee, sweet spices. Firm and tangy but the fruit has a swing to it, a jive, a liveliness. It’s not heavy or deep but it feels exactly right. Ultra-fine tannin is but one of its highlights. Rated: 93 points. Drink: 2016 - 2020+.”
