Over and Under || Alouette + Regina
It had been some time past noon when Alouette arrived at the Toll Bridge, but she didn't know much more than that. Teetering on the railing, she hummed the song to herself over and over again as her pencil rapped on the first of several sheets of blank staff paper. She was trying to compose a four-part vocal arrangement of the Scottish folk song "The Skye Boat Song" as her final project of the summer and was hoping to get it done in time for her older music students to learn it.
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing
Onward! the sailors cry...
Something clicked, and Alouette snapped her fingers in satisfaction before she started to scribble away. Still singing to herself, she tucked her heels up so she was sitting nearly frog-like on the rail, and quickly lost all sense of anything else around her. Alouette was deaf to everything but the song in her ears.
