#mid-wave ultraviolet

Terlingua Calcite (pink, lilac, blue) with associated calcite from the Little 38 Mine in Terlingua, Texas.  It shows multiple colors from multiple generations of calcite growth.  A beautiful rock that doesn't have a bad side!  Some of the yellow fluorescing calcite phosphoresces (glows in the dark) under all wavelengths, some of it doesn't phosphoresce at all.  None of the orange fluorescing calcite phosphoresces.  The bits of Terlingua Calcite phosphoresce after exposure to both short wave and mid-wave UV.  Shown under long wave (pink), mid-wave (lilac), short wave (blue) and white light.

Terlingua Calcite with hyalite(?) from the Little 38 Mine, Terlingua, Texas.  The hyalite (or chalcedony) is a relatively rare association with about 5% or fewer of the specimens having it.  This one has a nice sprinkling on the display side and some on the other sides as well.  It also has a nice rim of orange fluorescing calcite along the top edge.  Shown under short wave, mid-wave, and long wave  ultraviolet, and white light.

Terlingua Calcite from the Little 38 Mine in Terlingua, Texas. All of the fluorescent minerals in this rock are calcite. Shown under long wave ultraviolet, mid-wave ultraviolet, short wave ultraviolet and white light. This one weighs over 8 pounds.

Black/gray/brown scheelite crystal from the Tae Hwa Mine, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea.  Scheelite is an ore of tungsten.  Shown exhibiting the classic blue fluorescence under short wave ultraviolet light, under white light, and showing the red fluorescence that is sometimes seen under mid-wave ultraviolet light.  The nearly equilateral triangle edges measure approximately 1 3/4 inches or 4.4 cm.

Aragonite, some with sulfur, from Sicily, Italy.  Shown under white light, short wave ultraviolet, mid-wave ultraviolet, and long wave ultraviolet light.  Crazy colors.  Too bad the one on the bottom left isn’t brighter, but it’s got the best sulfur crystals.
