“Hmm... what a shame. With all the people here, it’s difficult to hear the birds sing.”
But there are other things to listen to, interesting in ways that the whispers of gods and nature are not. There is the sobbing of a young woman, upset at the loss of a lover or a friend; the rambunctious laughter of a group of knights, each sharing well-earned money between them; two friends, reunited since being brought to this strange world; and... footsteps.
