Christmas fluff from Sid and and MC to Jess? I'd want that dog to get some love and cheer, too.
This was the saddest Christmas I’ve ever experienced.
I sat on the rug in front of the fireplace staring at the tree Sid and I spent so many hours decorating. Beautiful tinsel that sparkled in the firelight, glistening ornaments of all shapes and sizes, and tiny glowing lights bringing it all together made the perfect tree. Underneath it were colorful presents with bows and ribbons. Here at our personal getaway cabin for the holiday, nothing could be more cozy.
And yet, I couldn’t smile.
Grabbing the edges of my blanket, I tightened it around me. I looked over at the window to see large fluffy snowflakes drifting heavily to the ground. Sid had been out for hours, taking care of last minute business before he was off for Chrismas Eve, and also seeking any information about his dog.
Jess had somehow escaped the property and had been missing for nearly two weeks now. I’ve heard she had gotten out before and always returned a day or so later, but this time was different. She hasn’t come back and Sid has been sick with worry ever since. As Princess, there’s only so much I can do. I’ve already had Alyn search all over the city every single day and Nico’s been instructed to look for any signs of her at the edge of the forest.
No luck.
He’ll never admit it, but I can feel Sid’s sadness at night when we’re in bed together. He tries to hide it, but I can feel it when we embrace, when we kiss, everything has a hint of worry to it.
Then, there was a loud thump at the door. I knew it was Sid, hitting his shoes to get as much snow off as possible. As I stood up, I heard loud scratching and more thumping at the door. Starting to get worried, I was prepared to open the door for him in case he needed any help.
The heavy door swung open, bring in harsh wind and bitter cold. I tried to grab my blanket, but it flew right off of me. Sid nearly slipped as he came in, but zooming beneath his feet was a snowy covered dalmatian, body wiggling from her strong tail wag and whining at the sight of me.
“JESS!” I squealed, dropping to my knees as she approached, her cold tongue lapping at my face. Her body was frozen and her fur was soaked as she toppled over me, her tail whipping at my legs. I’ve never hugged her so hard in my life. “Sid, where did you-?!”
“Luckiest thing,” he smirked, hanging up his snow-covered coat, “went into town and there were flyers everywhere about a found dog. So I called ‘em up and there she was.” He joined me on the floor, stealing Jess’s attention from me as she proceeded to topple him.
“Who’s my good girl!” he said over and over in a high pitched voice, making kissy faces at her, increasing her excitement. My heart filled with joy to see my darling love happy with his dog again, but I’ll never deny that a piece of me was missing, too, while she was gone.

Christmas was tomorrow morning. It was nearly midnight as Sid and I snuggled in bed with Jess at our feet. Everything I wanted for the holiday was finally here and I couldn’t ask for anything better.
