Saw your post about people trying really hard to distance autism from the concept of disability, and I feel like the "xyz trait that seems mean to allistics is a misunderstanding and myth actually" posts I've been seeing, which have been rubbing me the wrong way a lot are from the same people, and for the same reason. Can't articulate how or why I think they're connected, but both have been making me very uncomfortable, and I'm glad they're getting addressed.

hi there, thanks for the ask! are you talking about the posts that are like "autistic people actually understand sarcasm and social cues really well"? yeah these bother me a lot as well, and i think you're 100% right about the connection between them and the "autism isn't a disability" stuff. to me, both feel like they're trying to downplay the reality of autism and just shove it into this "haha we're so quirky" box. which probably stems from internalised ableism, but it still throws every autistic person under the bus whose symptoms aren't always fun and relatable, which is, y'know, pretty much all of us.
