@apathetic-ruler
It’s a calm evening in Midgar, the skies clear and city buzzing with life. Were it not for the light pollution, the stars and moon may have even been visible overhead. Even if they were, Cloud’s current location wouldn’t have allowed him much of a view, trapped in the one building he thought he’d never set foot in ever again; The ShinRa Building.
He’d only been here for a few moments and already he had a few choice words for Barret even suggesting this idea. Why they couldn’t have found another way to get into the building was beyond him. Why use him to keep watch when he could have found his way through the air duct system just fine with the others.
It’d be better than him standing among the sea of Midgar’s most elite, trying not to draw too much attention to himself in case anyone noticed he didn’t belong here. It was proving to be difficult though, the black tuxedo he wore much too suffocating for his taste, making him shift uncomfortably in it with a frown. He wanted his old clothes back. The ones that didn’t hug his body so closely and constrict his every movement.
A quiet sigh escaped him, drowned out by the mindless chatter from a nearby group and the distant music from the orchestra playing nearby. It was a celebration for Rufus ShinRa, yet it felt far from anything he’d ever consider a party. Everything felt far too formal and restrained, the only perk being that he could at least evade the man of the hour himself with how his presence in the room instantly drew the attention of the crowd. It seemed even the most powerful in the city still sought out the new president’s approval...
He’d lost sight of him close to midnight, but given the calm in the room, he could safely assume he’d retreated to who knows what other part of the building. It gave him a moment of respite, retreating from the main ballroom to one of the side rooms that acted as a small bar. The room was elegantly decorated, but empty save for the lone bartender cleaning a few glasses.
It was more privacy than he’d been granted out on the main floor, settling on the far end of the bar table and pulling out his phone to check on the group’s progress. So far it seemed they were advancing right on schedule, hopefully by now having met with the mayor. Now he just needed to find Rufus ShinRa and make sure he wasn’t going to any of the lower levels for the rest of the evening...
