honestly, with pelle, soft headcannons and general headcannons are basically the same thing
hes so very gentle and caring all the time, feels like he would be damned if you had to worry about anything at all
Pelle strives to make sure you know you are safe with him and that he can be a good partner
even from the beginnings of your relationship he craves domesticity, always wanting to experience the mundane with you
a quiet night in is his dream date
he wants to make dinner with you, watch your favorite movies and shows, and quietly go to sleep with you comfortable and safe in his arms
he absolutely finds a show you two keep up on religiously and he wouldn't dare watch it without you
Pelle definitely has a full closet of comfy sweaters and sweatshirts just so you have something soft to lay on (and if you have sensory issues he's all over going shopping with you to find what you like the feel of)
he always knows exactly how to make you feel better, too
tea? already fixed on the counter
cuddles? he's pulling out his softest shirt just for this and you know he'll gentle run his hand over your back the whole time
CUPS YOUR FACE WHEN HE KISSES YOU
kisses from Pelle make everything feel like it doesn't matter anymore, only the warmth of his hands on your cheeks and the brush of his lips on yours
you can always feel the faintest smile everytime he kisses you, no matter the context or your surroundings
he gives the nicest hugs, I just know it
he just buries his face in your hair, so gently sways you two back and forth, he always wants to make himself feel like your home
king of homemaking over here, he's folding towels and doing dishes like it's his job and all so you don't need to lift a finger
he wants to show he can provide and care! he's so so good for you! you should totally have a baby right now!
definitely always tries to ease the idea of having a family into your life (worst influence in a clothes store--always ends up in the baby isle tearing up over the little shoes)
in public, Pelle is a picture perfect boyfriend
holding your hand, sprinting to open your car door, not complaining about going into another store
has all the little old ladies swooning everytime he holds your arm in the crook of his
he eats it up everytime too, always a soft smile and "my love only deserves the best"
Summary: It’s Dani’s birthday, and you have something special planned.
Warnings: N/A, this is just pure fluff!
A/N: I wrote this in like an hour, so it’s not proofread (or good) but I just HAD to write something for our May Queen!
Today was the day!
July 7th had come with more rain than you had expected, but you wouldn’t let that keep you from spending and enjoying this wonderful day with your girlfriend, who was still sleeping soundly under the ridiculously large pile of blankets. How she could sleep under all those blankets in the middle of the summer would forever be beyond you. You tiptoed over to the window, slowly tugging the curtains shut to shield Dani from the little sunshine that filtered through the window. She had had a rough night, so you figured she deserved some more rest.
Besides, this gave you time to start on Dani’s favorite breakfast without waking her. So, after pulling one of the blankets up to cover her shoulder, you pressed a kiss to the side of her head and left the room, shutting the door as quietly as you could. You walked into your kitchen, digging in the cabinet and fridge for all the ingredients necessary.
Once you had all you needed to start on those strawberry pancakes, you reached over to the small kitchen radio and tuned it to your favorite music station, quietly enjoying the music as you got to work.
After chopping up the strawberries into slices, you added them into the batter and mixed it with a rubber spatula before pouring a bit of batter into the sizzling pan. While you let it fry, you started the coffee maker, and soon, the house smelled of the sweetness of pancakes and the bitterness of coffee.
Just as you finished assembling the pancake tower, Dani came into the kitchen. She watched with sleepy curiosity while you topped the tower with whipped cream and extra strawberry slices. A soft smile crossed her features, and she made her way over to you, wrapping her arms around your waist and resting her chin against your shoulder.
“What’s all this?” She asked, taking a step back when you turned around, presenting the stack of pancakes with a wide smile. Dani looked confused for a solid minute, and you had to bite your lip to keep from laughing when the realization hit her. “You did this for me?”
“Happy birthday, Dani.” You giggled, setting the plate on the counter next to her and taking her face between your hands, planting a soft kiss on her lips. Dani gladly returned the kiss, pulling away with a smile of her own. “Come on, birthday girl. Let’s eat.” You said before she could say anything.
Dani nodded, and together, you carried the food and the coffee to the table. Dani opted to sit next to you instead of across from you, giving you the opportunity to cut up some pancakes and feed them to her. At one point, you accidentally missed her mouth and poked her nose, causing the two of you to burst into a fit of giggles. After breakfast, you and Dani cuddled up in the living room, your arm around her shoulders as her head rested against your chest.
“I know you didn’t want me to get you anything for your birthday, but…” Dani lifted her head at your words, and suddenly, you feel nervous under her gaze. You shake away the nerves as you both sit up. Slowly, you side off the couch and settle between her legs, reaching under one of the cushions to reveal the black velvet box you had planted there the night before.
Dani is speechless, her hand coming up to cover her mouth in shock. You set her arms against her thighs, opening the box and revealing the ring your best friend had helped you pick out. It was simple but elegant, and you knew how Dani would react if she found out you had spent too much. Taking in a deep breath, you looked up at her.
“Dani, the first time we met, I was absolutely speechless. You were the new girl in the complex, and I was so nervous to even go up to you. But I did, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Since then, we’ve been together for over four years. I know we’ve had our ups and downs, but know that I’ve never loved anyone as I love you."
"You’re the reason I wake up in the morning, the person I want to come home to every single day for the rest of my life. I love the way you make me feel, the way you look at me like I’m the only thing you want in this world. I love the way your nose scrunches up when you laugh, I love the way you tuck your hair behind your ear when you’re nervous. The way you can sleep under god-knows how many blankets in this heat and not break a sweat."
"The way your eyes get big after I say something absurd, and the way your lips slowly curve up into a smile whenever I tell you I love you, like you’re hearing it for the first time. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, Dani, truly.” You bite your lip when she brushes a tear away from her cheek, her bottom lip quivering.
“Dani Ardor, will you marry me?”
The silence is unbearable, and you refrain from closing your eyes so you don’t have to watch. But you look up at her, and Dani’s frantically nodding her head with a big smile on her face. Her face is red, and the tears brimming her blue eyes spill out.
“Yes! Of course, yes!” She manages to choke out. Your erratic heartbeat slows, and you find yourself letting out a slow exhale as your shaky hand slides the ring onto her finger. Not even a second later, Dani tackles you to the hardwood floor in a hug, her lips crashing against yours. Your kiss her gently, your hands wrapped around her waist.
The two of you break apart for air after a few seconds, crying and laughing like idiots before sitting up. Dani leans over to press her forehead against yours, releasing a shaky sigh.
Summary: It’s Dani’s first day back at university, and she needs a boost.
Warnings: N/A
A/N: Back at it again! God, I love her.
It had been two months after Dani had to escape Hårga. The road to recovery had been anything but easy for her. For the first few months, Dani was restless, always dreading going to sleep in fear that when she closed her eyes, she’d see nothing but the burning temple. The people inside it. She barely ate, afraid that a sip of orange juice would taste like the tea they used to drug her.
Once again, she was forced to acclimate to this new environment, except this time, she was all on her own. She moved out of her apartment in New York, as she was unable to continue attending university after everything that had happened, and instead, she moved to Pennsylvania. That’s where you two met.
You met on the first day of June. Dani was just moving into an apartment four doors away from yours, and she looked like she was close to being crushed by the boxes she was carrying. You had just come home from college, but you immediately helped her carry her things into the bare apartment. She had thanked you in a silent murmur, avoiding eye contact. The two of you introduced yourselves, and that’s when it all began. Granted, it took Dani a while to open up to you, but she did.
Over the passing months, you and Dani both began to feel like there was definitely something between the two of you, though neither of you addressed the feeling at first. It took a bad breakdown on Dani’s part for you to finally admit to her that you really cared and that you definitely weren’t going anywhere. You moved in with her roughly two months after you decided to start dating. You were struggling with rent, and Dani didn’t like living alone, so you both decided it would be easier if the two of you shared an apartment and split the rent.
It had been four months since you and Dani had started living together, and the beginning of Dani’s first semester at Penn State University was but a day away. Since you had convinced her to start therapy, Dani’s improvement was astounding. Of course, she still had her bad days, but even in those, she didn’t feel so alone anymore, not when she had you holding her close. Her therapist had talked Dani into applying for college again, and you had long ago begun easing her back into society and socializing.
Your friends loved Dani, truly, and Dani was grateful that all of them were so understanding and caring. Even though they were your friends, they’d check up on her through text, and she thought it was a sweet gesture on their part.
Nevertheless, the day before classes began, Dani was anxious. You went to the same university, but Dani’s classes started a good three hours before yours did, so you reassured her you’d be awake to see her off, and that you’d try to find her during the day to check up on her. This seemed to put her somewhat at ease, especially when she realized she could just text you if things went south.
When Dani’s alarm woke you up in the morning, you reached over and silenced it. You wrapped your arms tightly around Dani and pressed gentle, sweet kisses to the side of her face. Slowly, she began to stir, until her blue eyes were staring into your own. The two of you got ready for university, and Dani had even asked for you to put her hair up in the messy bun she loved so much. While Dani brushed her teeth, you switched out the knitted sweater you were wearing for a simple tee and went downstairs to start a pot of coffee.
Dani came down just as you finished stirring the sugar into her to-go cup. You walked into the living room and over to her, handing her the cup, which she took with a grateful smile. You noticed she was carrying the sweater you had just taken off in her hand, and you raised an eyebrow inquisitively, a soft smile playing on your lips. At this, Dani blushed, sheepishly thumbing the sleeve of the sweater.
“I’m sorry, I meant to ask. Can I borrow your sweater? It smells like you.” She asked softly, looking up at you. You smiled at your girlfriend and leaned in, pressing a sweet kiss to her lips. When you pulled away, Dani was smiling blissfully.
“Of course you can. Now, go. You’ll be late.” You scolded playfully, giving her another chaste kiss before waving her away and bringing your own cup of coffee up to your lips. Dani nodded her head and started towards the door. She turned the knob and stepped outside, but turned around to look at you before she did. You smiled reassuringly, setting your cup of coffee down on the counter behind you. “I love you.” You said. Your girlfriend’s smile broadened, and she gave a small wave.
“I love you too.”
And with that, Dani closed the door to your shared apartment and left.
“DUDE, MOVE.” Mark lightly shoves Josh by the shoulder. It was dinnertime, supposedly day three of the festivities, and people from the group were starting to gradually disappear each day without a trace. And all Mark wanted to do was spend time with you before either one of you was next.
Josh reacts. “Why?”
“Y/n is sitting there, I wanna be next to them?” Mark pushes Josh down the long bench they were all sitting in. Annoyingly slapping his shoulders while so, Josh groans.
“Okay! Okay! Fuckin’ weirdo.” And Josh scooted over so Mark could replace his previous spot.
You walked up without even knowing what had happened. “You guys okay?” you began to ask, sliding your feet underneath the wooden tables. You were beside him now.
Being Dani’s best friend and being in love with her would include...
You’re Dani’s best friend
Which means you’re fully aware of everything that goes on in her life, no matter how much she tries to hide it from you
You know about her breakdowns, you know about her family
And you know how shitty of a boyfriend Christian is, even though Dani reassures you that he’s doing his best
When Pelle invites Christian to Sweden, Christian invites both you and Dani
You’d like to think that Christian invited you because he likes you, but you know he invited you because he hates dealing with Dani’s breakdowns, and you’re the only person he knows that can calm her down
So you end up going to Sweden, and soon find yourself in Hårga
It’s beautiful, you think
The colors, the scenery, the music, Dani’s face as she takes in the beauty of it all
Pelle takes you to meet his family after Ingemar gives you and Dani some kind of tea
At some point, Dani goes for a walk and you decide to follow her to make sure she’s okay
You’re tripping, though
You can’t tell what’s real and what’s not
So, eventually, you somehow wake up in some sort of cabin?
You find Dani lying next to you, and it seems she had just woken up as well
“What happened?” She asks
You turn on your side to face her and sort of just hum
You don’t really remember what happened after you took the tea
“That was a really bad trip.”
Dani agrees, and soon you’re both back outside with Christian and his friends to meet the rest of the community
It’s pretty chill, you think
There are people playing games as you all sit in a circle and talk
The boys leave soon, you don’t really care why
That leaves you and Dani sitting on the grass
“Hey, happy birthday.” You say with a smile
Thankful that the box you kept in your pocket didn’t get crushed, you pull it out and hand it to Dani
Dani opens the box and her eyes go wide
“Oh my god!”
She pulls out the multi-layered star necklace that you had seen her eyeing a few months ago
She turns to you with the biggest smile, and you honestly try your best not to show how in love you are with your best friend
“Y/N, this is beautiful. Thank you.” She says
You help her put it on and lean back just to watch her for a while
She’s really cute
The way she stares down at the necklace and gently thumbs at the little star pendants is just
Absolutely endearing
Christian and the boys come back soon
“How long have the two of you been together?”
“Just about… Three years.”
Four years, you think
Four infuriating, upsetting years of watching Christian pretend to care about Dani
Dani corrects him, telling him it’s been four years
She’s visibly upset about this, but she just sort of waves it off
Christian even bother looking apologetic
It genuinely makes your blood boil
Night turns to day, and you all join the Hårga for some sort of feast before they whisk you away to a cliff
When the elders jump off the cliff, you’re horrified
Next to you, Dani is paralyzed
She looks sick, and you completely understand, so you guide her back to her room to take a breath and just not think about that, ever again
Pelle comes in to check on Dani, and you give the two of them a moment and step outside to get some air
“Do you feel held by him?”
Dani takes a minute to think about the question
Did she feel held by Christian?
Did he truly understand what she was going through?
Did he even fucking try?
Dani doesn’t speak, but Pelle knows the answer and leaves her alone to reflect
Dani’s only ever felt truly held by one person in her life
And it wasn’t Christian
It was you
Realization dawns on Dani
You’re the person that’s been with her through thick and thin, not Christian
When she has a breakdown, Christian just holds her, but he doesn’t say anything
It’s almost like he’s ashamed of her
But you’re not
You talk her through what she’s feeling, you breathe with her, you take care of her
You hold her when Christian won’t
When you come back in, you find her fast asleep
You drape the blanket over her and decide to call it a day
How you can actually sleep through the entire night is beyond you
Next thing you know, you and Dani are dancing with the other woman around the maypole
You’re holding Dani’s hand as you dance in a circle, and you’re having the time of your life
Although you can see Dani is confused, she plays along, and she soon starts to enjoy herself
With you by her side, it just heightens the euphoria
You fail to notice when she stares at you
Dani thinks that with the flower crown on your head, and the carefree smile on your face, you’re positively stunning
You two laugh as you dance together, and one by one, the women begin to get eliminated
Soon, it’s you, Dani, and two other women
Tired and dazed, you trip over your own two feet and fall, but you don’t even care
You get ushered to sit with the others and smile as you watch Dani
When she’s crowned May Queen, you rush over with everyone else and pull her into the tightest hug
“I don’t know what the hell it means to be May Queen, but you deserve this.” You say
Dani smiles, but the smile morphs into a confused frown as you’re whisked away to allow Dani to be dressed
You make the mistake of looking around for Christian, and you see him walking away with Pelle’s sister
Dani catches on after a while when she hears moaning coming from one of the cabins
You both know what’s going on
“What’s that?”
“That’s not for us.”
“Dani, I don’t think that’s something you want to see.”
Dani knows you’re right, and every part of her wants to just forget any of this happened and run away with you
No, Dani thinks, this isn’t something she wants to see
But it’s something she needs to see for herself
You and the others rush over when Dani runs out of the cabin and keels over, wailing
Your heart hurts for Dani
She doesn’t deserve this shit
All of you take Dani into the other cabin and try to get her to lay down, but she can’t
The way her face is contorted in such pain mixed with the distressed sounds that are leaving her mouth is enough to make you want to murder Christian with your bare hands
Dani finds her way to the floor, and you kneel next to her as another woman takes her face between her hands
The women start matching Dani’s every breath, her every sound
And you find yourself doing the same when Dani looks at you for reassurance
The woman pulls you over, allowing you to take her place
And you and the other woman wail with her
Dani collapses forward, and you grab onto her, your forehead pressed against hers
After Dani calms down, the women leave the two of you alone for some time
You sit with Dani on her bed, her head in your lap and your fingers threading through her hair
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
She doesn’t answer for a bit, but soon, she looks up at you
“Do you love me?” She asks
“You know I do.”
It’s true
You know it, Dani knows it, Christian knows it, Pelle knows it
You hold Dani a bit tighter after that
Much later, you’re back outside
Dani’s forced to choose between sacrificing a man from the village, or a paralyzed Christian
After all she’s been through, it’s no surprise that she chooses Christian
When the teepee goes up in flames, Dani has another breakdown
You rush to her and take her hand, breathing with her until her breaths begin to regulate
As you’re about to let go of her hand, her grip on yours tightens
You notice Dani’s now looking at the burning teepee
So you stand by her side
Suddenly, Dani smiles
And you can’t help but smile as well
This is wrong, you know it is
But in your head, you know Christian had this coming
And you can’t bring yourself to care about someone who’s caused Dani so much distress
It’s satisfying, and you can see Dani thinks so, too
The two of you look on as the teepee burns to the ground, your fingers laced together
Yeah, sure, Hårga’s fucked up
But as long as the two of you are together, it won’t be so bad
