Derek Walcott, “Midsummer, Tobago”
From Derek Walcott's "Midsummer, Tobago”
"… from the summer-sleeping house drowsing through August.
Days I have held, days I have lost,
days that outgrow, like daughters, my harboring arms."

Midsummer, Tobago - Derek Walcott - Saint Lucia
Broad sun-stoned beaches.
White heat. A green river.
A bridge, scorched yellow palms
from the summer-sleeping house drowsing through August.
Days I have held, days I have lost,
days that outgrow, like daughters, my harbouring arms.
I wrote an essay about Walcott's poem "Midsummer, Tobago" and titled it Don't You Know That It's Insane?
My professor told me how much they loved the title and when I told them that, being a Vampire Weekend fan, I couldn't pass up this opportunity. He didn't understand what I was talking about. He didn't know who Vampire Weekend was, let alone that they had a song titled Walcott. He thought my title was really deep and an inquisitive way to set up my paper.
