Fundamentals of Drawing - every Wed, starting 02 Mar - 23 Mar
March 2016 will see the start of the next series of evening art workshops run at Phnom Penh Community College – this time on the fundamentals of drawing.
During these workshops, France Damon, one of the most respected artists living in Cambodia, will show you how to draw pictures you would never have even dreamed of trying.
Session 1 – Self Portrait
You will be exposed to the history and possibilities of the Self Portrait and will learn the techniques for creating your own portrait from a mirror image or photograph using multi or mixed medium charcoal, graphite, colored pencils, collage, etc. Slides. lecture, discussion and demonstration are included.
Session 2 – Still life in the Khmer tradition
Using local artifacts you will learn to look at the simple composition and record it accurately on paper, drawing attention to the light and shadows. Color pencil or b/w. Slides. Lecture, discussion and demonstration are included.
Session 3 – Figure drawing
You will be exposed to drawing a ‘live’ figure and will learn techniques for proportioning and for "building" a drawing of this most challenging subject matter. Charcoal and black and white pencil. Slides. Lecture, discussion and demonstration are included.
Session 4 – Drawing a landscape from a photograph
You will learn how to compose and copy a landscape from a photograph in an artistic "Impressionist" tradition. Pastels, colored pencils, charcoal and graphite. Slides. Lecture, discussion and demonstration are included.
Facilitator
France Damon has been an artist, Studio Art & Art History teacher and creative arts curriculum developer for many years in San Francisco, San Jose, Pago Pago, Cannes, Munich and Napoli. France has advanced degrees in Interdisciplinary arts, Painting and Art History. She has won awards for teaching as well as painting and design. A successful facilitator with the Phnom Penh Community College, she has a huge wealth of experience and passion to share with you.
Workshop Details
Date / Time – Wednesday 2nd March (Self Portrait), Wednesday 9th March (Still life in the Khmer tradition), Wednesday 16th March (Figure drawing), Wednesday 23rd March (Drawing a landscape from a photograph), 6.15-8.15pm
Fee – US$100 for all workshops including materials. (50% paid on registration, 50% paid on the day of the first workshop)
Target participants – Ideal for people at a beginner/intermediate level.
Location – The Capacity Specialists Training Centre, #73, Street 115, Sangkat Veal Vong (just north of Sihanouk Boulevard)
